The newly inaugurated President of Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has encouraged Ugandan entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in her nation.
Nandi-Ndaitwah issued this request during a meeting with a Ugandan business group, headed by Godfrey Kirumira, the Honorary Consul of Namibia in Uganda, at the Namibian State House in Windhoek, the nation’s capital, on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
On Friday, March 21, the first woman president of Namibia was inaugurated, succeeding President Nangolo Mbumba, who was 83 years old.
The inauguration of Nandi-Ndaitwah took place on the same day as Namibia’s 35th Independence Day celebration, placing her among the few women who have led African nations, including Ellen Johnson Sirleaf from Liberia, Joyce Banda from Malawi, and Samia Suluhu Hassan from Tanzania.
Namibia achieved independence on March 21, 1990, with Sam Nujoma, the nation’s first Black President, at the helm. He passed away not long ago.
Nandi-Ndaitwah was one of the key figures who played significant roles during the liberation struggle of the nation under the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO), which has governed the country since gaining independence.

Kirumira added, “The president mentioned that she wishes to observe her citizens engaging in businesses alongside Ugandans, primarily to generate job opportunities. She expressed concern about the fact that even though her nation possesses abundant natural resources, the populace seems somewhat inactive. Therefore, she believes they should be motivated to take action via collaborative efforts.”
The Ugandan business contingent comprised Suzan Kirumira, who is married to Kirumira; Hamis Kiggundu, owner of Ham Enterprises; John Bagambe from Super Oil; George William Kajoba; and Edward Nakibinge.
Direct flights needed
Nandi-Ndaitwah urged Ugandan Airlines to initiate direct routes to Namibia to facilitate the better utilization of potential business and investment prospects available in both nations.
In January 2024, when serving as the Deputy Prime Minister of Namibia, the newly appointed President traveled to Uganda for the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the G77+China Summits.
During her visits to Kirumira’s residence in Buziga and the Namibian Consulate situated on Lumumba Avenue in Kampala,Ndaitwah emphasized the strong bond she shares with Uganda and President Yoweri Museveni. She reminisced about the 100 cattle that were presented to her when she visited Uganda.
She proceeded to visit Hamz Stadium and the Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds, where she also had talks with its owner, Hamis Kiggundu.
Nandi-Ndaitwah extended an invitation to Kiggundu to visit Namibia and consider investing in stadiums as well as other ventures.
