The Erin-Osun Progressive Union (EPU) has lamented the extensive damage resulting from the continuing intercommunity conflict among Ilobu, Ifon-Osun, and Erin-Osun, indicating that assets valued at billions of naira have been destroyed.
On Monday, Chief Kayode Olawale, who serves as the National President of EPU, released a statement from Osogbo expressing deep concern over the destruction caused in contested frontier regions. According to him, numerous houses were set ablaze, and vehicles along with motorbikes faced vandalism, resulting in tens of thousands of inhabitants being forced out of their homes.
“Numerous individuals from our community have become displaced and are fighting for survival. Consequently, we urge the government via NEMA and the State Emergency Management Agencies to promptly provide assistance to our area,” pleaded Olawale.
The EPU additionally called upon the Osun State Government to implement more robust measures to avoid further violence.
“We acknowledge the government’s first steps, but we urgently call for stronger actions to tackle this crisis. The expansionist objectives of those attacking us have left them oblivious to the catastrophic outcomes of their deeds, leading to casualties and property damage in Erin-Osun,” the statement said.
Accusations Targeting Ilobu and Security Forces The labor union alleged that inhabitants of Ilobu and armed insurgents deliberately attacked Erin-Osun on Friday evening, resulting in burnt-down homes and numerous people being displaced.

Even though our town remained neutral during the resumption of the Ilobu-Ifon conflict, attackers from Ilobu invaded our community, razing houses and damaging property,” Olawale stated. “Security personnel arrived subsequently; however, their response was delayed, permitting further devastation.
He further alleged that soldiers deployed to restore order acted with bias, intimidating Erin-Osun residents while giving Ilobu attackers free rein.
“One of our team members was fired upon up close by a soldier who was meant to safeguard us,” he alleged.
Denials and Counter-Accusations Emerge as Ilobu Rejects Claims, Blames Ifon-Osun and Erin-Osun In response, the Ilobu Asake Development Union’s National President, Pastor Olufemi Salako, refuted these claims in a separate statement. He alleged that Ifon-Osun and Erin-Osun jointly attacked Ilobu, supported by an influential government figure.
“This marks the eighth occasion where our innocent populace has endured such brutal assaults, even though Ilobu has contributed significantly to maintaining national tranquility. Despite producing the late Chief of Army Staff, General Taoreed Lagbaja—who met with an unexplained end—rather than safeguarding their fellow townspeople, Ilobu remains vulnerable to these fires,” Salako emphasized.
As tensions escalate and the death toll rises, all parties involved are urgently demanding governmental action to halt additional devastation and establish enduring stability.

Trainers might face restrictions in an picturesque hamlet within the Cotswolds due to disruption brought about by excessive tourism.
Residents of Bibury, Gloucestershire—a place dubbed “the most beautiful village in England” by 19th-century author William Morris—say they have seen an upsurge in tourist numbers lately.
Throughout most of the year, they say it turns into something akin to the Wild West, as automobiles and carriages bring throngs of visitors into this small community.
While the idyllic village descends into chaos, pedestrians become endangered, they point out.
Following calls from village residents and the formation of a task force involving council members and law enforcement officials, Gloucester County Council has disclosed strategies aimed at addressing this issue.
In the long run, coaches might face bans on stopping and parking in the village; however, at first, more lenient measures will be implemented.
In the initial phase over the coming two months, the plan involves modifying the configuration of the parking spaces to prevent buses from stopping or lingering in the area beside the B4425 road, near the Swan Bridge at the heart of the village.
In the next phase, there will be more investigation into putting limits on coaches entering the village center.

This would depend on the result of a legal consultation process set to begin early in the summer.
Longer-term recommendations from the working group include looking into prohibiting coaches from stopping and parking in Bibury completely and improving signs to direct them away from its narrow lanes.
The team aims to explore whether there are potential parking spots for coaches located beyond the village boundaries.
It aims to promote alternative methods for visitors to explore Bibury, including walking, cycling, utilizing public transportation, or taking minibusses.
Councillor Stephen Davies, who leads Gloucestershire County Council, stated: “Our commitment is to safeguarding the welfare and security of both the people living in Bibury and those visiting.”
The suggested steps will aid in better traffic control and improve the general experience for all.
We value the community’s backing and collaboration as we introduce these modifications.

We recognise that these suggestions might not sit well with coach operators; nonetheless, we are committed to finding a way for coach visitors to reach Bibury. This process will require some time.
‘Hence, we have tried to discover balanced resolutions that provide results which still attract guests in a controlled manner, while also tackling the safety and crowding issues faced by the village.’
Craig Chapman, the chairperson of the parish council, stated: “Although the people of Bibury recognize that we reside in an attractive town, the strain imposed on us by the large number of visitors coming here and the influx from tourist buses has grown unbearable and unacceptable.”
He stated: “Although this marks the beginning of the actions, it is quite encouraging, and I am certain it will be well-received by the community.”
Trainers have already been prohibited from entering the middle of the nearby town Bourton-on-the-Water due to comparable problems seen in Bibury.

A county council in County Antrim is looking into a glamping location after claims surfaced that it violated planning regulations.
Cotters Park, located close to Randalstown, was proposed to Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council as a “back-to-nature, sustainable” destination for food tourism.
However, residents in the vicinity have referred to it as a “loud party location” and a “nightmare field.”
A representative from A Cotters Park stated that they have “carried out an extensive planning process,” and they aim to “promote environmentally conscious” tourism in the region.

The proprietors of Cotters Park initially proposed a ‘culinary tourism idea,’ which involved hosting cooking demo evenings led by nearby culinary experts for guests.
A planning document stated that visitors would have the chance to taste regional products and buy goods from the nearby farm store.
Since its inauguration in December 2023, it has been home to bridal showers, weddings, and various gatherings featuring DJs, bands, and live performances.
These activities were not included as possible uses in the initial planning application, and Cotters Park did not refute them occurring when questioned by LIFEHACKNI.
Posts on social media advertised “catering, entertainment, bar services, etc.,” however, Cotters Park lacked an entertainment license.
A cabin was constructed at the center of an island within the development area, with the developer stating that it would “stay undisturbed” for the sake of local wildlife.
The cabin was advertised on social media as a “bar and event venue” or “partying area on the island.”
Locals sometimes say it embraced a “Love Island theme.”

The Residents Against Cotters Park organization stated: “The construction completed hardly resembles what was approved in terms of size and purpose.”
The site received approval for six pods and a welcome center, yet there are presently seven pods serving as accommodations onsite.
Additionally, there are saunas, hot tubs, and other facilities that were not initially authorized.
Cotters Park is seeking approval for retroactive planning permissions to keep those.

Neighbors have likened the location to an airport runway and mention that the brightly lit decorations are considerably diminishing the region’s rustic ambiance.
They have expressed concerns that the neon lights installed at the fronts of the cabins are affecting wildlife.
A study on ecological impact released in February revealed that “there has been a significant decrease in both the number of bats and their level of activity…”
The report stated that this largely stems from the inadequate present conditions of amenity lighting.
‘A living nightmare’
Bernie Crossan, who belongs to the local opposition group, stated that the developer has carried out nearly unrestricted development of the area, greatly exceeding the planning permissions that were approved.
“The establishment has become a nightmarish reality for numerous long-term local inhabitants,” stated Ms. Crossan.
She emphasized that we urgently require the local Council’s intervention to bring an end to this torment.
The Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has stated that the location is still undergoing an enforcement inquiry.
A representative further stated: “The council treats all aspects of enforcement with seriousness and is unable to share particular details regarding the investigation… as doing so might adversely affect potential legal actions.”

Local politician ‘somewhat misled’
The Alliance Party MLA John Blair had formerly backed the project but expressed that he now feels “misinformed” regarding its planned purpose.
“As evident, what has occurred significantly deviates from what was initially promised to me,” he stated to LIFEHACKNews NI.
Neon lighting, themed parties, live music, and light pollution are completely different from my expectations. Furthermore, an island that was advertised to me as a natural attraction has now been developed.
Mr Blair stated that the development “does not align with sustainable rural development and rural economic goals as it lacks suitability and proportionality.”

‘Committed to environmental stewardship’
A representative from Cotters Park stated that they “carried out an extensive planning process.”
The council carried out an assessment at Cotters Park and determined that the authorized cabins meet both the planning consent conditions and the stipulations set forth by the Caravan Act. They also mentioned that Cotters Park is collaborating with the council regarding another planning submission for the location.
Past social media mentions of bars, events, or party spaces at the location have been taken down, and a liquor license is unnecessary since alcohol isn’t provided at Cotters Park.
Cotters Park stated that they have recently installed “lighting with red bulbs, low wattage, and hoods to increase wildlife and bat activity in the vicinity.”
The representative further stated that Cotters Park is dedicated to environmental responsibility and has made investments to aid local habitats through the placement of owl boxes, birdhouses, and bat nests.
Eco-studies verify that hedgerows, ponds, and other plant life with significant ecological diversity and conservation significance have been preserved and improved upon, offering increased benefits for wildlife within the area.
The representative further stated: “Cotters Park does not provide drink packages, and there is aNoise Management Plan established at the location.”
