Eid
, as thousands get ready for a day filled with prayer, contemplation, and festivity, the
Kaduvayil Juma Masjid
, also referred to as Kaduvayil Thangal Palli, embodies the essence of faith, community, and legacy.

This prominent mosque, among the biggest in South India, serves as much more than a religious site; it stands as a haven where history, architecture, and human spirit converge, attracting devotees and visitors alike from all over the area.

A shrine bearing a mystical heritage stands between Kallambalam and Attingal, merely 12 kilometers away from the Varkala Railway Station.
Kaduvayil Juma Masjid
is devoted to Saint Kaduvayil Thangal, a revered Sufi mystic recognized for his profound wisdom and miraculous healing abilities. Located within the mosque compound, his shrine draws countless visitors from various faiths seeking his spiritual blessings. “Distinctive among mosques, this site welcomes individuals from various religions—Hindus, Christians, and Muslims—who gather in prayer. Numerous visitors journey from far-off regions after hearing tales of this mosque, convinced that seeking solace through prayer here may alleviate their hardships. With over four centuries of heritage, legend has it that a Sufi mystic, known for wandering alongside a tiger in these territories, resided here. People back then held him in high regard, filled with both respect and wonder,” explained Rahim, a devotee.

He mentioned that many years earlier, during the process of preparing land for farming, a burial site was found. This discovery caused the laborers to halt their activities, and that very evening, each of them had dreams about the same Sufi mystic, who appeared roaming around accompanied by a tiger.

Subsequently, Islamic scholars journeyed to the location and verified that it was truly his final resting spot. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unknown, yet his existence at this locale is certain. With passage of time, members from both Muslim and Hindu backgrounds united efforts to safeguard this holy place.

The mosque’s construction commenced in the early 20th century, approximately in 1978, and concluded in 1985. What makes this place extraordinary is that it was constructed by a Hindu individual named Gopalakrishnan, who earned the nickname ‘Mosque Man.’ Additionally, this mosque operates a hospital where more than half—over 700 out of 1,300 employees—are from various other faiths. It serves as an exemplary symbol of harmony.

“More than just a house of prayer, this mosque actively engages in charitable activities. We assist individuals who require financial aid for healthcare costs, offer educational support, and help people irrespective of their origins. To us, they are all members of the same family, which is fundamentally important,” stated Rahim.

A mosque of such magnificence and importance would typically be created by a renowned architect. However, its design was crafted by Govindan Gopalakrishnan, a non-Muslim individual aged 78, originating from

World Quran Hour 2025: Surah Al-Saff Urges Unity and Strength in Challenging Times

World Quran Hour 2025: Surah Al-Saff Urges Unity and Strength in Challenging Times

KUALA LUMPUR – The World #QuranHour 2025 successfully brought together Muslims from around the globe for contemplation and recitation of Surah Al-Saff, a passage rich with profound messages relevant to our current times.

The event, initiated by the founder of Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation (WUIF), Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub, celebrated its tenth anniversary with an emphatic plea for solidarity and resilience among Muslims.

At the event held today, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs, Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, emphasized the importance of this year’s theme. The focus was on ‘bunyan marsus,’ which refers to building a strong and well-organized structure.

Al-Saff refers to lines or formations, and in verse four of this surah, the idea of ‘bunyan marsus’ is emphasized, representing a strong and well-structured arrangement.

“This theme holds significant importance, particularly in our current situation, as it emphasizes the need for solidarity and fortitude within the Muslim community,” he stated to journalists during the World #QuranHour 2025 event conducted at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in Gombak today.

Na’im stressed that Surah Al-Saff ought to act as a guiding principle for leaders, ‘umara’ (rulers), ‘ulama’ (scholars), and the whole Muslim community.

He mentioned that the purpose of the event was to encourage people to return to reading the Quran, fostering unity and camaraderie particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

He additionally highlighted the link between the theme and the challenges encountered by individuals in Palestine, notably those in Gaza.

The message conveyed through “Bunyan Marsus”—a term signifying robust organization—is a potent appeal urging Muslims across the globe to come together in safeguarding Palestinian rights and battling against their subjugation by Zionist forces.

“This is precisely why unity and solidarity, drawing inspiration from Surah Al-Saff, have been selected as the main theme for World Quran Hour 2025,” he stated.

This year, World Quran Hour 2025 was themed around ‘Preserving the Ummah,’ highlighting the significance of solidarity in maintaining Islamic faith under Allah SWT.

The 10th edition of the World Quran Hour 2025 program gathered numerous participants via in-person presence at the primary location, live TV transmissions, and online streaming.

Moreover, this year’s event saw registrations from 1,370 sites within the nation, alongside 25 venues located in 19 different foreign nations.

Osaka Expo Denies Request for Additional Prayer Rooms Amid Space Constraints

The organizers of the World Expo in Osaka have denied a petition asking for additional prayer areas for Muslims and adherents of other faiths because of limited space, according to an insider who spoke about the issue on Monday.

Given that just one prayer room is provided without catering to any particular faith, there are worries about whether the requirements of the Expo attendees will be adequately addressed. It’s anticipated that approximately 3.5 million individuals will arrive from abroad for this event.

Although the precise capacity hasn’t been revealed, an official from the organization mentioned that the space can probably fit about a dozen individuals at most.

As stated by the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, a prayer room will be established in a resting area within the exposition grounds, featuring segregated areas for men and women. Additionally, mats will be supplied for Muslim attendees to use during their prayers.

The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry predicts that approximately 85 percent of expected international tourists will originate from Asia, which includes numerous Muslim travelers who adhere to the practice of praying five times daily.

In January, an Indonesian journalist, whose country holds the title of having the biggest Muslim populace globally, approached the exposition organizers regarding incorporating portable mosques. However, a high-ranking member of the organization stated that there wasn’t enough room and suggested setting up these facilities within each separate exhibit area instead.

In 2018, a company based in Tokyo created a portable mosque utilizing a 25-ton truck equipped with an extended rear area designed to form a praying zone covering approximately 48 square meters. This setup allows for roughly 50 individuals to pray simultaneously.

The vehicle comes with air conditioning units and a generator, along with water faucets designed for ritual purification before prayers.

The Indonesian reporter has raised concerns about the absence of a prayer area at the exhibition site, considering several nations have withdrawn from building their respective pavilions. They suggested that having a portable mosque might prove “helpful.”

The reporter stated, “Prayer is essential for Muslims, and it’s disheartening that providing sufficient praying areas was overlooked.”
