North Korea Slams Provocative Nuclear War Drill: US-South Korean Military Exercises Escalate Tensions

North Korea stated that it will keep enhancing its capability to counteract any threats from adversaries, according to reports citing the state-controlled Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) by South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.

The North Korean Foreign Ministry’s Disarmament and Peace Institute released the criticism following the conclusion of South Korea and the United States’ 11-day joint “Freedom Shield Exercise” on Thursday.

North Korea stated that the hostile and provocative character of this year’s exercises reached an all-time high, as reported by KCNA.

The country’s state media outlet, Pyongyang, issued successive statements criticizing the recent combined exercises conducted by Washington and Seoul. Kim had “significant and beneficial” talks with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu in Pyongyang the day before. During the discussion, they covered various topics concerning the defense of each country’s security interests along with broader regional and international matters, reaffirming their agreement on these points.
