Jaguar Targets Wealthier Younger Drivers With $160K Type 00

The Jaguar brand showcased its aim to attract younger, wealthier motorists during an exhibition in Paris where they unveiled their latest concept car, the Type 00. This model offers all-electric opulence but comes with a hefty price tag.

The sleek, athletic-looking concept car unveiled to European journalists on Friday hints at a production version slated for release around mid-2026 with an estimated starting price of 150,000 euros ($160,000).

That’s twice as expensive as the current lineup of Jaguars, placing it more in the Porsche price range.

But the prestigious British brand — owned since 2008 by Indian automobile giant Tata Motors — has embarked on a campaign to remake itself as a ride for a far younger clientele than the one traditionally associated with it. Especially as the market goes increasingly electric.

At the end of last year, the company stirred up discussions when they introduced a new logo with rounded letters and launched an advertisement showcasing a vibrant, culturally diverse group of models — without any vehicles in sight.

The Type 00 prototype is just as vibrant: the electric blue variant displayed appeared as though it was taken directly from the set of a “Tron” film.

Jaguar states that the concept guiding their latest release is “exuberant modernism.”

The managing director of Jaguar, Rawdon Glover, who was present to sit in the driver’s seat of the prototype, described it as “a clear preview of all the future Jaguars to come.”

Glover mentioned that the intended audience was likely “between 35 and 50 years old,” noting they should have “a definite appreciation for both design and technology.”

Jaguar faces an uphill battle nonetheless.

Based on data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), Jaguar accounted for just about 1.2 percent of Europe’s car sales in January of this year.

Between April 2023 and the end of March 2024, the firm reported selling 78,000 vehicles in Europe as stated in their 2024 annual report.

As the market for electric cars expands, models from Tesla, Volvo, and Volkswagen lead the way. However, with economic uncertainties looming, numerous European consumers are hesitant due to the elevated costs.

However, Jaguar anticipates that the Type 00 technology will be appealing, boasting a claimed range of 700 kilometers (430 miles) per charge and versions capable of delivering up to 1,000 horsepower.

Nevertheless, the company failed to provide specifics regarding the hefty batteries that would be installed in the vehicles.

Several high-end automakers are delaying their shift toward fully electric vehicles due to the lackluster reaction from consumers.

Aston Martin, Bentley, Maserati, and other brands have postponed their initiatives, while Jaguar’s sister brand Range Rover has also delayed the manufacturing of its electric SUV.

Removing the traditional kei car frame, and replacing it with the advanced components of a high-performance superbike.

It’s small, it’s yellow, and it has a clearly retro design as a hatchback. This isn’t a Mini; it’s a Honda N600 from the early ’70s. It was equipped originally with a petite 600cc-ish kei car engine that, when everything aligned perfectly, could crank out roughly 40 full horsepower on a good day.

Pleasing to the eye but not as enjoyable when driving; potentially frustrating, varying based on one’s mood and patience levels on a certain day.

However, that’s all set to change soon.

Each year, they invite a group of friends to participate in what they refer to as Build Week. During this event, their aim is to finish an incredibly ambitious task within seven days by putting in continuous effort throughout the duration. Of course, there are moments set aside for rest; however, the idea is that bringing together skilled do-it-yourself enthusiasts will enable them to accomplish substantial amounts of work much more quickly compared to when working alone.

In 2025, they plan to transform this unassuming little Honda N600 by installing a distinct Honda engine within. Which engine? It’s a

Superbike million. This indicates, amongst other aspects, that it would not simply involve swapping out the small N600 motor. The plan includes changing it to rear-wheel-drive configuration, with components such as the fuel tank, radiator, and battery being relocated into what used to be the engine compartment at the front end to assist in balancing the overall weight distribution of the final build.

Certainly, we must address the minor detail that the CBR1000RR engine produces approximately 170 horsepower. This figure is over four times what the N600 was originally designed for, plus the motor will now sit at the back rather than up front. As such, numerous additional modifications would have to be implemented to ensure this tiny kei vehicle does not contort itself like a delectable soft pretzel when in operation.

They’re assembling quite an eclectic mix of components here, featuring a rear axle sourced from a Mazda Miata, some suspension pieces taken from a Polaris RZR, and various other elements used to bring everything into alignment. Despite being imported from Texas, where cars can easily succumb to rust, this particular N600 remains impressively corrosion-free for its years; however, extensive modifications still have to be made—namely cutting apart the back end—to accommodate both the new engine placement and suspension setup.

How crazy does it sound once this build is finished? They intend to head over to the Virginia International Raceway go-kart track for an exhilarating ride after completion. Do you want to get behind the wheel of this, or are they completely nuts? Share your opinions in the comments section.

1978 VW Rabbit: The Ultimate Find on Bring a Trailer Before GTI

1978 VW Rabbit: The Ultimate Find on Bring a Trailer Before GTI

  • Rabbits are swift, agile, and difficult to catch. The same applies to this Volkswagen.

  • In the late 1970s, the Rabbit was the top choice among small cars, with hundreds of thousands being sold; however, only a handful remain today.

  • This specimen is among the initial batch of German-made cars with circular headlights, and it has undergone numerous delightful enhancements.

Continuing the success of a popular model can be challenging—just consider what happened to Dexys Midnight Runners after “Come On Eileen.” Similarly, this was the situation Volkswagen faced in the 1970s. The sales for Beetles had declined in America, they were being overtaken by Opel back in their German homeland, and there was an urgent demand for a new, contemporary car for the masses. In response to these crises, VW chose to focus on developing the Golf.

Marking its 50th year, the initial Volkswagen Golf stands out as a remarkable tale of automotive triumph. Here in North America, our introduction to this model was through the spirited and economical vehicle known as the VW Rabbit.

This 1978 Rabbit was initially designed for the Canadian market and, significantly, belonged to an earlier batch with rounded headlights manufactured in Germany. Numerous North American Rabbits rolled out from Volkswagen’s Westmoreland assembly facility in Pennsylvania; however, these vehicles generally received less acclaim regarding their build quality compared to those made in Germany. This particular model underwent cleaning after being exposed to maple syrup and later found itself relocated to California.

It’s worth mentioning that this petite Volkswagen isn’t compliant with California’s emission standards (thus cannot be registered there), yet it’s sufficiently aged to bypass emissions testing in many other states. Despite being mostly untouched since production, it boasts several appealing enhancements such as a throttle body sourced from VW specialist Neuspeed, an upgraded free-flowing exhaust system, and a set of powerful brakes manufactured by Wilwood at the front end. The addition of H&R coilovers along with 15-inch steel rims taken from a Corrado finalize the image of a compact vehicle brimming with energy akin to a lively terrier.

The big question many people might be pondering is, “What about a GTI instead?” The first-generation GTI is rightfully celebrated as one of the greatest driving cars ever produced, often mentioned alongside iconic vehicles like the E30 BMW M3, original Mazda MX-5 Miata, and classic Mini Cooper. Here’s why you should consider something else though: prices for the Mk 1 GTIs have been consistently rising over time. American-market versions were known for delivering impressive performance despite having just 96 horsepower under the hood. This particular model comes equipped with a 1.5-liter engine producing an admirable 70 horsepower right out of the box. Additionally, finding such a well-preserved Volkswagen from this era is truly challenging.

This particular Rabbit boasts minor imperfections that make it all the more appealing for pushing aggressively around bends—many enthusiasts discovered their passion for these vehicles precisely this way. Exact mileage remains uncertain, offering an opportunity for new adventures as you rack up additional zeros on the odometer and enjoy every moment of it. The GTI gained legendary status primarily due to how well-rounded the standard model was. With its elegant rounded headlights and sleek enhancements, this example promises to deliver plenty of thrills.

The auction concludes on October 29.
