MANILA, Philippines – On Thursday, Senator Grace Poe stated that print media upholds integrity within democracies amidst the era of false information.
“Printing continues to be crucial in modern media due to its reputation for upholding accountability and responsibility,” Poe stated.
Access to clear and precise information is crucial for our democratic nation. Freedom of information allows citizens to make informed choices,” she further stated. “It is based on the idea that every individual should be provided with complete details.
She also mentioned that ethics continue to be maintained in print media compared to other types of media, which prioritize differently. This makes conventional media a reliable source for information.
“The aim of content creators is to achieve widespread popularity; they often rely on the simple act of sharing to spread both accurate and inaccurate information alike… Conversely, traditional print media adheres strictly to journalistic ethics, with fact-checking being paramount among these principles. Perhaps this is why print media enjoys public trust and proudly positions itself as the custodian of truth,” noted Poe.
Nevertheless, she thinks that content producers should remain responsible since they play a role in disseminating information.
“The accountability for the material remains with the journalists, bloggers, or everyday individuals authoring these posts or managing these accounts,” Poe stated.

MANILA, Philippines – Business tycoons Ramon Ang and Enrique Razon Jr. have warned the public about deepfake scams and counterfeit advertisements on social media platforms that misuse their identities for deceptive investment opportunities.
Yesterday, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Chairman and CEO Ramon Ang once again cautioned the public regarding the proliferation of counterfeit videos and internet advertisements that misuse his name and likeness to endorse unlawful financial schemes.
The video content, appearing as sponsored posts on Facebook, Instagram, and various social media channels, employs sophisticated techniques such as deepfakes to mimic genuine news reports, thereby deceiving viewers.
“These deceptive advertisements are causing significant harm to many individuals. We must take action against them. I urge government organizations, social media platforms, and citizens to collaborate in order to halt those responsible for these frauds and protect others from falling prey,” Ang stated.
Ang reaffirmed that he is not promoting any investment plans and is neither backing nor participating in any type of online financial opportunity.
He mentioned that SMC is considering taking legal action and is prepared to assist with investigations as well as potential prosecutions of those involved in the scams.
In order to safeguard the community, SMC has been working alongside officials to locate those accountable.
Ang also called on Meta and other platform proprietors to enhance their verification procedures for sponsored advertisements – particularly those that utilize the names and images of public figures without consent.
“These technology platforms possess the means to halt this situation. We’re requesting they take additional steps to safeguard their users,” he stated.
The International Container Terminal Services Inc. has alerted the public about online frauds that involve doctored videos and voice recordings purportedly featuring Razon, the company’s chairman, as well as other high-ranking officials.
As stated by the firm, the fake content surfacing on social media wrongly depicts Razon endorsing investment chances.
The company stated, ‘These allegations are completely false. Neither Mr. Razon nor ICTSI have supported any such ventures.’
ICTSI stated that the fraudulent content appears credible and might encompass proposals that look genuine.
“ICTSI stresses that these are unauthorized and meant to deceive viewers,” the statement read.
ICTSI is advising everyone to take precautions when interacting with online material related to ICTSI or the Razon Group, as this can aid in preventing online scams.
Similarly, the public is advised to refrain from disclosing their personal or financial data to unknown entities and to inform the relevant platforms about any dubious content or impersonation efforts they encounter.
Fraudsters are leveraging technology as a tool and utilizing well-known business figures and organizations to carry out their unlawful investment scams.
In addition to Ang and Razon, other magnates like Manuel Villar Jr. have similarly fallen victim to involvement in scam operations.

Leading US government figures such as Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth have faced accusations of a significant security lapse involving military intelligence. This followed an incident where a journalist inadvertently received confidential plans outlining potential U.S. attacks in Yemen.
On Monday, an article in the Atlantic by Jeffrey Goldberg, who serves as the magazine’s editor-in-chief, disclosed that he had been included in a group conversation on the Signal messaging platform earlier this month.
Consequently, he managed to access communications from high-ranking national security officers regarding impending assaults on the Iran-supported Houthis in Yemen. This included comprehensive details about the objectives and the specific armaments that would be employed in these operations.
Soon after, locations throughout Yemen were hit with bombs on March 15th. Since the militant group started attacking commercial and military ships in the Red Sea in November 2023, the U.S. has conducted airstrike operations against the Houthis.
Goldberg stated that he would refrain from publishing messages from the group chat that might endanger the United States’ national security.
Nevertheless, in the Atlantic piece, the journalist disclosed certain remarks made within the closed group, which counted among its members Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Tulsi Gabbard, who served as Trump’s director of national intelligence.
The released communications initially debate whether the strikes should proceed. Subsequently, they reveal that after the commencement of the military action, members within the group shared congratulatory messages with each other.
The US National Security Council has verified that the text message thread “seems to be genuine.”
One of the biggest mistakes in operational security
Following Goldberg’s disclosure, both politicians and experts voiced their concerns over the news that high-ranking officials within the Trump administration were deliberating about war strategies using Signal.
National security personnel typically talk about military operations through the government’s dedicated channels within secure compartments known as SCIFs (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities).
“We have significant concerns regarding this matter and will investigate it from a non-partisan perspective,” stated Senator Roger Wicker, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and a Republican from Mississippi.
At the same time, Chuck Schumer, a prominent Democratic senator from New York, described it as “one of the most astonishing compromises of military intelligence I have come across in a very, very long period.”
His coworker Jack Reed, who hails from Rhode Island and is the leading Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, mentioned that the discussion thread about Yemen might have endangered the lives of U.S. military members.
“The negligence exhibited by Trump’s Cabinet is both astounding and perilous. I am going to demand explanations from the Administration right away,” he stated additionally.
Hegseth criticizes journalist as Trump claims ignorance
The National Security Council stated in an announcement that they were looking into how a journalist’s phone number ended up being included in the Signal group conversation.
In his first comments on the matter, Hegseth attacked Goldberg for being what he called a “discredited so-called journalist”. He did not shed light on why Signal was being used to discuss the sensitive operation or how Goldberg ended up on the message chain.
” Nobody was sending texts about battle strategies, and that’s everything I need to comment on,” Hegseth stated during an interaction with journalists upon arriving in Hawaii on Monday, marking his inaugural journey to the Indo-Pacific region as defense secretary.
Late on Monday, in an official statement, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt mentioned that the president continues to have “complete faith” in his national security team.
On Monday earlier, Donald Trump informed journalists: “I have no knowledge regarding this matter. This is the first I’m hearing about it.”
