Firefighters Battle Blaze on Slieve Binnian: International Edition (English)
Firefighters have arrived at the location of a gorse blaze on Slieve Binnian within the Mourne Mountains.
Six firefighting vehicles and a command support unit are engaged in combating the fire.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) has requested that locals keep their windows and doors shut as they continue with fire suppression activities.
It comes after two other fires in the region earlier last week, one
near Silent Valley
and another
near Castlewellan
.
It is suspected that the fire close to Castlewellan was intentionally ignited.
The Natural Hazards Partnership
an Amber alert was issued for wildfires in Northern Ireland last Friday.
It was mentioned that dry and windy weather increased the likelihood of a fire outbreak.
