Morocco is enhancing its position on the international tourism scene and is emerging as a top choice for Portuguese travelers as the Easter break draws near.
The popularity of Morocco, along with other travel spots, is seeing a significant rise amongst tourists from Portugal. This was stated by Pedro da Costa Ferreira, who leads the Portuguese Association of Travel Agencies, according to an official announcement made to Lusa, the Portuguese news agency.
He noted that this demand is fueled by early reservations made by travelers who favor a wider range of locations, often willing to pay premium rates. This trend indicates that “the travel industry is witnessing extraordinary expansion this year, with booking numbers surging notably above those recorded in earlier periods.”
“Some locations have shown strong performance following the initial booking phase. Demand has notably increased for places like Morocco, Cape Verde, and the Caribbean, whereas the island of Madeira leads in domestic reservations with the approach of the Flower Festival,” he noted.
Regarding this, Tiago Encarnação, the operations director of the travel agency Lusanova, highlighted that reservations remain robust as the April 25 holiday draws near.
Destinations like Morocco, Italy, and the Baltic nations are becoming more popular, whereas Madeira and the Azores continue to be appealing local options, according to him.

Dhaka, April 2 — Over time, Eid has transformed from being solely an occasion to visit one’s hometown into a crucial timeframe for domestic travel and tourism.
However, both the broader audience and sector specialists contend that Eid tourism in Bangladesh has grown limited and repetitive.
Nazrul Islam, a 55-year-old high-ranking official at a corporation, had originally intended to go overseas during the Eid holiday.
Nevertheless, he eventually chose to remain in Bangladesh.
Even so, he does not plan to travel anywhere inside the country or even venture out into Dhaka on Eid day.
Rather than doing anything else, he intends to dedicate all of his time to being with his family.
When questioned about his reasoning, he responded, “Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice that most festivals in our nation adhere to a similar structure. On Eid day, following the dawn prayer and a communal meal, what typically occurs? People usually head either to a relative’s home, a public garden, or an eating establishment.”
This predetermined Eid celebration, which recurs annually, doesn’t take place in large foreign cities. Even venturing outside of Dhaka proves pointless—after several hours, you’re worn out from witnessing the unchanging scenery.
Mossabber Hossain, who is 72 years old, shares memories of Eid festivities in Dhaka, stating, “In those days, each neighborhood had fairs, there were boat races in Old Dhaka, and horse racing took place in open fields. However, nowadays, Eid mostly involves walking in parks and eating at restaurants.”
A tourism surge is anticipated in Khagrachari during the Eid holidays.
A Metropolis Driven by Commerce, Lacking Celebration
Adil Muhammad Khan, who serves as the president of the Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP), pointed out the constraints of Eid celebrations in Dhaka by saying, “The city has grown increasingly commercialized to such an extent that space for non-commercial leisure activities has been significantly reduced.”
A number of areas where fairs used to take place no longer remain today. The waterways designed for boating activities have been overtaken. Bodies of water have been reclaimed to make way for massive office towers, and as a result, eateries inside these structures now serve as focal points for Eid celebrations.
Even public spaces like parks have not escaped this change. If you go to Dhanmondi Lake nowadays, it might seem as though the focus has shifted from the water body itself to the many eateries that now line its shores. There appears to be no vision for an energetic Dhaka. People staying in the city during Eid find themselves stuck in monotonous festivities.
A Dull Encounter Outside of Dhaka
Humayun Rashid, aged 32, went to Cox’s Bazar with his family during the last Eid holiday.
He felt let down by his experience. “Cox’s Bazar can be explored thoroughly within just two days. Anything beyond the beach, such as boat tours, parachute flying, and horseback riding, tends to be overly priced and seems fraudulent.”
He remarked, “Once visitors recognize they are continually taken advantage of, they start losing faith in those locations. During last Eid, approximately 800,000 travelers descended upon Cox’s Bazar. The shore became as packed as a busy fish bazaar in Dhaka. Room rates at hotels surged dramatically, and basic meals were priced multiple times higher than normal. Who would wish to revisit an area like this?”
Tulilia’s Tulip: Enhancing Tourism and Regional Economy
Even though there are complaints, hotels in Cox’s Bazar have already secured bookings of more than 80% for this Eid, with the few available spots anticipated to be taken soon. Nevertheless, numerous travelers continue to express dissatisfaction regarding the increased costs. A tourist named Faisal was searching for a hotel room when he discovered that an average priced, air-conditioned room designed for couples and overlooking the ocean was being charged between Tk 8,000 and Tk 9,000—a price nearly twice as high as normal rates.
Murshid Hossain, who previously managed a hotel in Cox’s Bazar and now serves as a general manager at a three-star hotel in Dhaka, stated, “Hotels find it difficult to occupy their rooms during the low season despite providing discounts greater than 50%. Therefore, to ensure business sustainability and cover employee wages, they have to increase prices significantly when tourism peaks.”
An Unprepared Tourism Industry
Professor Muhammad Shoaib-Ur-Rahman from Dhaka University’s Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management feels that Bangladesh’s tourism sector is inadequately prepared.
Each year, we’re told that around 1.5 million travelers visit various locations during Eid; however, there isn’t any verified information supporting this statement. Without basing our development of tourist attractions on actual attendance figures and reconsidering what defines enjoyable experiences, genuine progress won’t occur,” he stated.
Travel limitations eased in 4 Bandarban upazilas
He further explained, “Tourists often go to Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban just once or twice and seldom come back. In contrast, locations such as Bali or Bangkok tend to draw returning guests. The main factor behind this difference is that Bangladesh’s travel spots provide a limited variety of experiences. Overseas, tourism combines natural beauty with human ingenuity to produce multiple points of interest. It takes more than couple of days to truly see all that Bangkok has to offer, whereas one could easily complete sightseeing in Cox’s Bazar within a brief period.”
He cautioned that uncontrolled price increases and cartels are adversely affecting both travelers and residents. “Since tourism drives up the prices of essentials, locals begin to view tourists unfavorably. This growing resentment might ultimately result in security issues.”

UI Blue Seno hotel, near the town of Sarigerme on Turkey’s southwest coast, a slice of perfection in an area of breathtaking natural beauty.
The approach into the nearby Dalaman Airport – just a 20-minute bus trip away from the small town of Sarigerme – offers a breathtaking dive into an area rich with vegetation and mountains that remains mostly unaltered by contemporary development.
The TUI Blue Seno, too, is a perfect example of conformity to its surroundings. It manages to blend the ancient with the contemporary seamlessly, with its 34 two-storey accommodation buildings, numerous swimming pools and glamorous dining facilities only just discernible in an explosion of colourful blooms and woodland.
During our initial visit to an all-inclusive resort, the Seno went above and beyond to convince us that we had been missing out significantly throughout all those years of managing everything ourselves.
Displaying a masterclass in customer service, exceptional levels of cleanliness and a varied choice of food and drink, it felt like a steal for the price.
Whether you want to just sit and relax on the beach or at any one of the resort’s four pools, or five bars for that matter, or find something more adventurous, Seno has it. The resort also features a spa and a gym.
A range of aquatic activities can be enjoyed here, such as canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, and waterskiing, alongside boat tours to discover the series of coves, bays, and shores scattered along the beautiful Dalaman coastline.
If you are more comfortable on dry land, the hotel has a dedicated entertainment team providing games throughout the day – the regular afternoon volleyball match was a must watch – as well as those which require a little less physical enthusiasm, like seated darts. There are even cooking classes for those not content with being waited on hand and foot.
Maybe you’d rather take a trip to the Blue Lagoon in neighboring Olu Deniz, where a beautiful sandy spit extends into the sapphire waters of the Mediterranean, surrounded by eateries, pubs, and opportunities for even more aquatic activities.
If you’re historically inclined, consider taking a day trip to the archaeological site of Kaunos, which boasts ancient baths and an amphitheater, located approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes away.
Ephesus, formerly the second-largest metropolis of the Roman Empire and regarded as Europe’s most intact ancient city, offers substantial rewards; however, it requires a more extensive trip north along the coastline toward Kuşadası.
For us? This meant a week off from work and an opportunity to rejuvenate. Whether at the beach, the bar, the restaurant, or back in our room, we wandered about freely.
The accommodation, part of the 314 available at the location, was cozy and spotless, situated high up on the cliff face offering breathtaking vistas over the bay.
Regarding the food, those loose-fitting clothes weren’t as spacious when returning home.
The primary buffet restaurant provided an array of delights limited only by imagination: freshly caught seafood, aromatic curries, crisp salads, artisanal pizzas, and even roasted specialties—all prepared just for you upon request.
Even though we were told that nearly all the rooms were reserved, it didn’t feel crowded at all, and the service remained outstanding.
On the shore, plenty of complimentary beds were available, and the Beach Snack restaurant once more provided an extensive selection of pasta, fish, and meat dishes all day long, prepared fresh upon request.
Do not let the sharp incline deter you; a team member was available to transport both us and our baggage between the room and reception using a golf cart.
Additionally, there is a frequent minibus service that operates in a circular route from the top of the resort to the bottom, approximately every 10 minutes, allowing you to disembark at your desired location.
Even the gardeners halted their carts to provide rides if they noticed a guest having difficulty.
The cliffside path is quite steep. Walking down to the main restaurant posed no problem, but ascending back up after enjoying a fulfilling dinner and several glasses of wine proved to be an entirely different challenge.
We were never left without options for getting back to our place of stay.
Additionally, guests could enjoy à la carte meals at the Culinarium restaurant and the Grill House, though reservations were required for both. The panoramic vistas from the Culinarium’s terrace stood out as exceptionally beautiful.
Additionally, the Starlight bar adjacent offers entertainment, and we had a fantastic time when we visited as the group of three singers had filled up the (outdoor) venue.
However, if you’re planning a getaway similar to ours, aimed at escaping the urban chaos and filth for a bit of calm rest, evenings typically wind down early – midnight marks the end of lively activities – and peace is readily available.
It’s obvious really; we’re already making reservations for next year.

I actually found Oslo somewhat dull,” says Luke. “From my perspective, when you go to Norway, it’s all about the natural beauty rather than urban areas. To me, Oslo seems quite gray and impersonal.
Tallinn boasts a Nordic allure, a picturesque medieval old town, and more affordable costs. Entering this place feels like entering a fairy tale, which makes the difference all the more remarkable.
Ditch Amsterdam for Wroclaw
Luke, who hails from the Netherlands, shares this insight: “Certainly, the capital of my country boasts numerous distinctive and stunning locations. However, if you seek a safer, cleaner, and more budget-friendly option, I would recommend Wroclaw.”
Wrocław, pronounced as ‘Vrots-vaf,’ is a Polish city located close to the Czech border.
Luke shares: “Wrocław has a comparable atmosphere to Amsterdam, yet lacks the throngs of tourists, steep costs, and scattered trash. The architectural style in numerous Polish urban areas mirrors that of Amsterdam.”
Exchange Antwerp for Gdansk
Antwerp, a Belgian harbor city, is described by Luke as “one of the least attractive cities in Europe.” According to him, this negative impression stems from issues related to safety, cleanliness, and general appearance.
The travel specialist suggests visiting the Polish harbor town of Gdańsk instead, calling it “much more picturesque.” He appreciates that Gdańsk is “budget-friendly, secure, and spotless” with “impressive structures” worth seeing.
Exclude London from the list in favor of Prague.
Although it ranks as one of Europe’s top tourist spots, London is considered overrated by Luke, who mentions experiencing ‘a feeling of unease’ during his visit.
Luke shares, “I have visited London several times, and although I acknowledge its grandeur in aspects like history, architecture, and culture, it personally feels quite overpowering to me.”
I don’t mean to upset anyone from Britain, but each time I go there, I experience an uneasy feeling. This probably stems from my own preferences since I’m not particularly fond of large, bustling, and extravagant cities such as London and Paris. Nonetheless, I cannot overlook the safety issues. Each time I look up ‘knife attacks in London’, I come across recent news stories from only a few hours prior. This does little to ease my mind.
For Luke, Prague offers a superior and more affordable vacation spot compared to London. He elaborates, “The architectural beauty, historical depth, and lively ambiance of Prague come with only a small portion of what you’d pay in London. Additionally, it’s far safer. Personally, I believe it stands as the most picturesque capital city in all of Europe.”
Desert Paris for Budapest
Luke confesses, “Paris is Paris, and you must go there at least once to witness its famous attractions. The spots I find overly praised still possess distinctive allure.”
However, the traveler claims that he believes the Hungarian capital excels over Paris in nearly every aspect.
Luke clarifies: “Despite attracting many tourists, Budapest retains its genuine Hungarian character. It might become crowded at times, but it stays remarkably secure. Having been to Budapest seven times, I have always enjoyed flawless visits.”
Even so, Luke states: “The Eiffel Tower isn’t in Budapest, so I still urge you to explore every location on the list and develop your own views instead of simply following my recommendations.”
Change Bodrum for Antalya
According to Luke, the coastal town of Bodrum ranks as Turkey’s most overhyped vacation spot.
He asserts: “The genuine Turkish ambiance is gone; now it functions as a holiday destination for the upper class.”
On the contrary, Antalya [another coastal destination] continues to preserve a deep-rooted Turkish culture and history. For this reason, I would suggest exploring Antalya rather than Bodrum. Additionally, the cuisine in Antalya is simply outstanding.
Substitute Stockholm for Riga
Luke’s concern about Stockholm mirrors his issues with Oslo. He mentions finding the Swedish capital “rather boring and drab.”
The seasoned traveler shares this insight: “Based on my experiences, it often turns out to be unexpectedly grimy and usually lacks appeal. You should explore Scandinavia for its natural beauty rather than solely focusing on its urban areas.”
Luke favors Riga, which serves as Latvia’s capital. He elaborates: “Riga offers a comparable Scandinavian vibe yet remains more genuine, secure, and budget-friendly. Given that I spent a year studying there, the city feels almost like an extension of my own home; thus, I am somewhat partial. Nonetheless, I sincerely think it stands out as a superior choice.”
Abandon Brussels for Ghent
Luke finds the Belgian capital disappointing, describing the city as having streets ‘overflowing with garbage and rodents’.
He states: “I have visited Brussels two times, and unfortunately, I found each visit to be underwhelming. To begin with the positive aspects, the historical center is stunning, the fries and waffles are delightful, and the ambiance nearly gives off a carnival-like vibe.”
However, as soon as you leave the old town area, the situation changes completely. The streets are cluttered with garbage and rodents, and the issue of homelessness is quite evident. This is particularly unfortunate for a city with such an extensive historical background.
‘I would suggest going to Ghent instead—a beautifully preserved, delightful university town in Belgium known for being traveler-friendly.’
Chuck Barcelona for Porto
In recent years, Barcelona has had difficulty dealing with the issue of overtourism, which is why Luke suggests skipping it.
The enthusiastic traveler remarks: “Barcelona has gotten so swarmed with visitors that it’s no longer pleasurable.”
He shares: “In Portugal, Porto provides vibrant architecture, exceptional cuisine, and top-notch wines—all at more favorable prices compared to Barcelona. Additionally, it boasts lower instances of pickpocketing. Furthermore, Porto stands out as being budget-friendly, less noisy, and cleaner. Indeed, it also features beautiful sandy shores!”
Drop Venice for Perast
Luke has included Venice, known as Europe’s “Floating City,” in his overrated category due to its tendency to be overrun by visitors. He believes that the city’s efforts to tackle this problem, like implementing a tourism levy, could help reclaim some of its original character.
In the interim, he suggests visiting Perast in Montenegro. The traveler shares, “Perast is among the most stunning locations I have ever laid eyes on.”
Although it doesn’t match Venice exactly, Perast surpasses it when it comes to safety, cleanliness, cost-effectiveness, and genuine charm.
