The Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, has advocated for increased regulation of the activities undertaken by youth within the nation.
On Sunday, Murkomen said that the youth should not be permitted to “act as they please.”
“They should allow Gen Z to speak freely; let them express themselves as they wish. Uncontrolled freedom can be perilous for our society and our children,” he stated.
Murkomen implored parents to lead their children onto righteous pathways, highlighting the crucial role of parental duty in molding young individuals.
Addressing the congregation during the church service and the 8th-anniversary celebrations of AIC Makueni, North Imenti in Meru County, the Cabinet Secretary spoke.
stated that young individuals ought not to be permitted to keep harassing leaders on social media platforms.
In January, President William Ruto similarly appealed to parents, encouraging them to teach their children strong moral principles.
He spoke as young people increasingly took part in online activism against the Kenya Kwanza government.
Ruto advocated for a comprehensive societal effort to oversee children and address what he referred to as “social problems and ethical deterioration.”
“We need to adopt a comprehensive societal strategy, ensuring that both governmental bodies and religious organizations play their roles,” he stated during the commissioning of the KMTC at the Kerio Valley campus.
Parents should be central figures, ensuring their children attend classes and guiding them to develop strong characters. This way, we can prevent them from being influenced by those who might lead them astray and produce individuals detrimental to our country.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has previously stressed the significance of young people possessing strong moral values and having positive role models within their communities.
“Some of our younger individuals possess remarkable gifts, talents, and inventive ideas, yet they resist being guided by others, believing they have mastered everything and everyone else has nothing valuable to teach,” he stated.
You cannot impart knowledge to those who believe they possess all answers, as this mindset is perilous. Regardless of your innate abilities or talents, accepting guidance from others is essential; there are no shortcuts. This is a fundamental aspect of existence recognized across various faiths, ideologies, and cultural traditions.

All you need to understand about Season 2 of Adolescence and why it might not succeed

Omar, who has over seven years of experience working with teens, mentioned, “I got chills watching ‘Adolescence.’” He explained that the series’ themes and messages were incredibly potent and brought back numerous recollections of conversations he’s had with the youth he interacts with daily, particularly regarding their experiences growing up under the impact of social media.
This series makes for quite an engaging viewing experience, and parents might have to exercise discretion. However, both teenagers and their parents ought to contemplate watching this because it addresses numerous significant matters. It was delightful having Sir Gareth at our youth center, witnessing a broader discussion emerge from the themes he has brought up.
In this segment, Omar discusses five key points that all parents who have viewed “Adolescence” should be aware of when bringing up teenage sons.
1. Patience is key
From what I’ve observed, boys generally tend to be more reserved when discussing issues that concern them compared to girls. In my role as a youth worker, we’re taught to connect with each young individual based on their current state, invest time in understanding them better, discover their passions, and establish a bond grounded in shared respect and trust. A teenage boy probably won’t immediately share his concerns just because you ask him ‘What’s bothering you?’ Show your genuine interest and care for both who he is and his viewpoints, and subsequently provide him ample time and room to express his emotions.
2. Find an activity
Discovering an activity you both enjoy, such as taking a stroll in a park or the countryside, preparing a meal together in your kitchen, or even playing a round of billiards, can help ease conversations around tough topics. Adolescents often find direct eye contact uncomfortable during serious discussions, which is why engaging in activities like walking alongside one another or cooking side-by-side tends to facilitate more open dialogue compared to facing each other seated at a desk or table. In my role as a youth worker, I encourage teenage boys at our club to participate in enjoyable and energetic pursuits—be it through team sports, scaling the climbing wall, or testing their skills with
boxing
Head to the ring or hit the gym. This can be an excellent method to strengthen your bond and alleviate stress from conversations they may find challenging.

3. It is essential to have male role models.
It’s crucial for adolescent males to have genuine, dependable adult male figures in their lives who exemplify positivity and openness. These mentors may include educators, relatives, youth counselors, or athletic trainers. The youths we engage often lack paternal influences growing up; consequently, before joining our clubs, many do not encounter any significant male role models. Discussing private matters with mothers can feel uncomfortable for these teens, leading them to suppress their feelings. As a result, they tend to withdraw socially and rely more heavily on digital devices like smartphones and platforms such as social media. Inspired by the Andy’s Man Club initiative from last year, we established ‘Guy Time’ sessions within our youth centers. During these times, designated areas were reserved specifically for boys to converse freely with male staff members, enjoy meals together, participate in recreational activities, and unwind. This program proved highly successful and remains an integral part of our offerings moving forward.
4. Listen closely
If a teenager guy shares something with you, make an effort to set aside your personal judgments or biases and simply pay attention. It can be easy to want to cut them off or get sidetracked by things like phone calls, texts, little brothers or sisters, or other distractions vying for your focus. Even though we offer many programs and great amenities here, what the teenagers I interact with value the most is having our undivided time and concentration without interruptions.
5. Real-life is best
Phones and
gaming
Are an integral component of every adolescent boy’s life; however, they should not dominate entirely. According to OnSide’s Generation Isolation study, among teenagers who frequently engage with their mobile devices, over fifty percent express a desire for reduced usage yet feel uncertain about achieving this change. Promoting involvement in sports teams, extracurricular clubs, community engagements, and youth centers assists young males in cultivating self-assurance, interpersonal abilities, forging friendships, and honing leadership qualities. This is evident daily within our sport programs as well as through our center’s teenage young leaders, who assist in mentoring younger kids. Such competencies pave the path toward adult independence, which cannot be fully acquired solely via screens.

On Monday, President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his government’s commitment to providing Nigerian youth with the necessary skills to ensure they can actively participate and excel on the international level.
Tinubu made this statement during the official launch of the Nigerian Youth Academy at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He emphasized that being an exceptional country with a median age of 17 years, Nigeria boasts one of the most youthful demographics globally.
Stanley Nkwocha, who serves as the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President for Media and Communications, made this announcement in a statement released on Monday. The title of the statement reads: ‘Empowering Nigerian Youth to Become Key Competitors on the Global Stage.’
At the launch, Tinubu, who was represented by Shettima, outlined sectors where the government plans to equip the youth with top-tier training, such as digital literacy, technical abilities, business acumen, and involvement in the creative sector.
He emphasized that a country’s achievement turns feasible when “its kids can sleep assured of their spot in an evolving world.”
Tinubu noted that this distinctiveness serves as an encouragement to meet the challenge of positioning Nigeria as the third-most populous country globally by 2050, with more than half of its population expected to consist of individuals younger than 21 years old.
As stated by the Nigerian leader, NiYA will concentrate on three key sectors: enhancing education and developing skills, promoting economic empowerment, and fostering leadership and civic participation.
By providing top-notch education in digital literacy, technical abilities, entrepreneurialism, and the creative sector, we aim to empower our young people to excel globally.
Programs such as the Youth Investment Fund and the Presidential Initiative for Youth Enterprise Clusters will offer financial assistance, guidance, and resources to budding business owners,” he stated. “Additionally, founding a National Youth Development Bank will guarantee access to the necessary funds to transform concepts into successful enterprises.
Tinubu stated that the NiYA represents a daring approach to addressing Nigeria’s poor standing in terms of human capital development, high unemployment rates, and other obstacles hindering national advancement. He affirmed that over the coming two years, the academy will equip and empower millions of young Nigerians.
“It will provide them with the abilities, information, and chances required to measure up against global competitors. This isn’t merely a commitment to their tomorrow; it’s a pledge to the country’s upcoming era,” he further stated.
Acknowledging that the safety of the country’s workforce depends on establishing a strong, skill-focused educational setting, the President stated that his government has achieved notable progress toward advancing the nation’s human capital growth plan.
He continued: “Yet, we must acknowledge the challenges that persist. Nigeria’s Human Capital Index ranking remains below its potential, with youth unemployment and learning poverty presenting critical barriers to progress.
“These statistics are not just numbers; they reflect lives disrupted, dreams deferred, and futures left uncertain. The Nigerian Youth Academy is our commitment to changing this narrative.”
“The Nigerian Youth Academy will nurture the next generation of leaders, training them in governance, policy-making, and community development. We believe that the success of this initiative rests not in Abuja alone but in the communities where real change is felt.”
Earlier, Minister for Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, explained that the initiative is designed to equip young Nigerians with marketable skills.
“The President assured Nigerian youth that they would be provided with an opportunity to realize their aspirations; countless young Nigerians aspire to secure gainful employment and lead prosperous lives,” he stated.
The Minister noted that NiYA aims to “upscale and bridge the skill gap in the job market and will close the gap so that many youths can be empowered with the skills needed for the job.
“This initiative is aimed at every young person in Nigeria. NiYA embodies Mr. President’s commitment to assist all youths in shaping a brighter future and generating opportunities not only for themselves but also for their families,” Olawande stated.
The Minister encouraged young Nigerians to grasp this chance, emphasizing that it presents all Nigerian youths with the opportunity to acquire skills, become actively involved, and steer their own futures.
Additionally, Mr. Wale Edun, who serves both as the Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, extended his congratulations to the recipients of the N1 million grant awarded to six representatives from NiYA. These individuals represent each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical regions and will use this startup fund to support themselves as they launch their initiatives aimed at developing skills among young people and promoting entrepreneurship.
Mr. Edun stated that NiYA represents a daring and ambitious move toward fulfilling President Tinubu’s pledge to support the empowerment of Nigeria’s youth.
He stated that NiYA resonates with the ambitions of more than sixty million young Nigerians aged between 18 and 35, both within Nigeria and abroad, who crave knowledge, skills, and opportunities.
We understand that in today’s global digital economy, skills hold greater value than mere certifications. This is precisely why NiYA stands out; it goes beyond being merely an educational platform.
“It serves as a launching platform for a fresh cohort of Nigerian entrepreneurs, creators, professionals, and founders who can effortlessly connect with the global community from their seats via the internet,” he noted.

The executive producer of the Netflix series “Adolescence” mentioned that she has been inundated with messages expressing thanks from parents who were inspired to engage in honest discussions with their kids regarding the topics addressed in the show.
Hannah Walters collaborated with her spouse, Stephen Graham, to develop the series that examines the story of a 13-year-old boy who was apprehended for murdering a girl from his class.
Since its debut, the series has garnered praise as well as sparked discussions around topics such as male anger and how sexist online personalities can influence younger males.
Walters informed LIFEHACKS that she anticipated the series would make an impression, though she didn’t expect it to be so profoundly impactful.

Talking with LIFEHACKRadio Leicester, Walters, who resides in Leicestershire, stated: “Both Stephen and I were aware that this would have an impact; we understood its necessity.”
However, with my hand on my heart, I must admit that I didn’t foresee the deep impact it would have on individuals.
I’m receiving numerous thank-you messages from parents, many expressing deep appreciation, as they are now entering their children’s bedrooms and communicating with them in manners they had not done so previously.
I believe that covers everything we needed to accomplish—give everyone a gentle nudge and remind them, let’s go, it’s our responsibility to ensure this generation doesn’t get misplaced, as they can slip away so easily.

The drama delves into how youngsters utilize smartphones, engage with social media, and navigate the internet, frequently doing so without their parents being aware of the specific content they encounter.
Walters added: “Even if we consider ourselves exemplary parents, one of the most significant tools for raising children is always within their reach—the continuous influx of information they receive. Therefore, we must remain aware of this fact.”
Since its debut on March 13th, Jack Thorne, who co-wrote the screenplay with Graham, has
requested that Adolescence be featured in both educational institutions and parliamentary settings
.
Although Sir Keir Starmer, when
inquired about the turmoil during Prime Minister’s Questions
acknowledged the necessity to address the “rising issue” of violence perpetrated by young males who are swayed by content they encounter online.
