British travelers have escalated their competition for sunbeds to extreme levels by staying on recliners throughout the night to
secure the most favorable position beside the pool at a Spanish hotel
.
Ben Smith was shocked when he saw that the top lounge chairs at his Tenerife hotel had been occupied — three hours prior to the pool opening.
Although it was still dark outdoors, most of the poolside loungers were taken — seemingly by guests who had spent the night there to secure their spot.
Tourist Ben, 30, from Sheffield, referred to the strange situation as a ‘vicious cycle’.
He recorded video of the strange ceremony at the £259 per person per night Gf Fanabe Hotel — a four-star hotel that appears to have been affected by this year’s sunbed conflicts.
The video was recorded on Monday, August 25, at the beginning of Ben’s two-week summer break.
“People rest on deck chairs to claim their place,” he mentioned.
They keep the beds reserved, yet the hotel enforces a rule where if your bed remains empty, they take away the towels—so they simply lie on top of them.

Some appear to be resting.”
“Several seem to be sleeping.”
“A few are evidently fast asleep.”
“It looks like some are in deep sleep.”
“There are those who seem to have fallen asleep.
It’s somewhat foolish. I understand why individuals engage in it, yet it forms a harmful cycle, as one might say.
They are the ones responsible for the issue they wish to escape.
If individuals did not book accommodations they weren’t going to use, there would be no problem.
I haven’t noticed the beds being fully occupied with people, only with towels.
Recently, there was only one bed shared among three of us, and a woman generously offered us one of hers — it wasn’t needed, and she asked us to remove her towel.
I suppose, in a way, it’s kind of her, but then again, why is her towel placed there when she isn’t using it?
‘It’s mostly selfishness.’
The Gf Fanabe Hotel has been contacted for a response.

Four travelers lost their lives on Phuket Island over the course of a week, raising increasing worries regarding security and prompting demands for enhanced precautions due to the island’s powerful monsoon tides and absence of rescue personnel.
On August 20, a 68-year-old Swedish individual fainted while walking through shallow waters at Kata Beach and was unable to be resuscitated by the lifeguards, as reported by the
Thai Examiner
.
Two days after, the corpse of a 28-year-old U.S. citizen was discovered near Patong Beach.
The police have forwarded both corpses for post-mortem examinations to establish the reason for their deaths.
A third individual, a 35-year-old Russian national, died by drowning early on August 21 while swimming at night between Banana Beach and Nai Thon Beach, according to reports.
Khaosod newspaper
His 24-year-old partner mentioned that they set sail around 12:30 a.m. when big waves hit unexpectedly.
Although he succeeded in guiding her towards the beach, he was swallowed up by the water.
In reaction to the recent fatalities, officials have added more alert signs and boosted the count of lifeguards at popular seaside areas, as reported by the
South China Morning Post
.
The northeast monsoon period, spanning from June through October, has historically been considered Phuket’s off-peak time. Nonetheless, certain travelers still come to the island because of its cost-effectiveness.
The increasing number of fatalities highlights significant shortcomings in protective protocols. Rescue swimmers frequently face heavy workloads, warning signs are absent, and help arrives too late. As a result, officials are reassessing personnel numbers, visual alerts, and surveillance procedures.
Additional public education initiatives are being implemented across vacation destinations and lodging facilities, promoting adherence to guidelines from locals and visitors alike, as well as swimming exclusively in monitored zones.
Phuket was named among the world’s most stunning islands by an American publication.

At the start of each day, Daniel enjoys a cup of coffee on his balcony along Tran Phu Street in Nha Trang, watching over the sea. This Canadian software developer has been residing in the city for one year. His initial visit to Vietnam was three years back as a traveler.
However, upon returning to Canada, he longed for his days in Vietnam and chose to relocate to Nha Trang to find out if he belonged there.
He leased a small apartment in the northern part of the city for $400, started studying Vietnamese, became involved with community running clubs, and currently works from afar while arranging programming sessions for young people.
The northern part of Nha Trang has its own pace—neither overly quick nor sluggish. I’ve visited Bangkok, Bali, and Lisbon, yet only here did I discover the perfect combination of ocean, hills, delicious cuisine, and reliable high-speed internet.

As per unverified information from Expat, a service designed to assist individuals in locating homes overseas, approximately 4,000 foreigners are
living long-term
In the city area of Nha Trang, the majority come from South Korea, Russia, Germany, Australia, France, and the United States.
Numerous people appreciate the gentle weather, featuring average temperatures ranging from 26 to 27 degrees Celsius, sunny days, and ocean winds.
Some people opt for the city due to its affordable lifestyle, which is projected to range between $600 and $1,000 per month.
Digital nomads such as Daniel can find employment opportunities here too. Nha Trang hosts numerous sectors, including maritime services, green energy, tech, and travel-related businesses.
An expatriate mentions that foreign individuals can secure jobs as English instructors or within the tourism, service, or information technology sectors.
Rebecca, a marketing professional from Australia, abandoned her job in Sydney’s advertising industry to work as a freelancer while exploring Southeast Asia. Following visits to multiple cities, she chose to remain in Vietnam.
I selected Nha Trang as a break from daily routine. Initially, I intended to remain for three months, yet I prolonged my visa. Now I possess an apartment of my own, I go diving, I’ve learned to prepare bun cha ca, and each morning I jog alongside residents along the shore.
In Northern Nha Trang, where Rebecca now resides, the area is evolving into a community for foreigners, featuring European-inspired cafés, small stores offering international products, fitness centers with instructors who speak English, and open-air yoga sessions providing views of the sea.
Each day, she goes running with companions through Luong Son Pass, offering an expansive sight of the seaside town from 50 meters high above the ocean. Occasionally, she plunges into the water to examine underwater coral formations or glides across the surface on a stand-up paddleboard. Cam Ranh Airport lies just half an hour away by car from the city.
I feel more at home here than I used to,” she remarks. “I’ve made connections with people from Canada, Ukraine, South Korea, and Vietnam who live here. Each of us has our own motivations, yet we all believe it’s worthwhile to remain.

Nha Trang provides similar facilities to big cities regarding medical services, transport, educational institutions, and fast internet connectivity. It is located within a protected harbor featuring clean waters, consistent breezes throughout the year, and mountainous terrain surrounding it.
Khánh Hòa province is allocating funds towards hospitals, international schools, and newly constructed seaside roads to support
a growing community
Foreign residents contribute to the local economy by leasing apartments, purchasing properties, and utilizing various services, thereby generating employment opportunities in sectors such as healthcare, education, and food and beverage.
Thanks to the growth of Cam Ranh Airport, newly built highways, and continuous improvement projects, Nha Trang, particularly the area in the north, is anticipated to attract an increasing number of tourists.

VICTORIA FALLS, August 26 (SANGGRALOKA.COM Live) – Over 300 businesses along with representatives from six additional nations have verified their attendance at the much-anticipated 18th edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Fair set to take place in the eastern border city of Mutare this coming month.
Last year’s event drew 408 participating firms, and it is anticipated to continue attracting significant involvement, particularly due to the inclusion of global enterprises.
Nations that have officially pledged their involvement are Ghana, Indonesia, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, and Malawi, highlighting the event’s broad local and global attraction.
As per the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), 319 businesses have already signed up to take part in the event this year, moving nearer to the objective of securing 450 participants.
Speaking to reporters in Harare not long ago, William Stima, the interim head of ZTA, voiced confidence that this year’s event would exceed predictions.
He mentioned that the location for the exhibition is still being built, and the tourism industry in Manicaland region is preparing to welcome attendees.
“Plans for Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanai 2025 are moving forward smoothly,” Stima stated.
The local tourism sector is completely ready to take advantage of this esteemed occasion.
In the meantime, the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) has characterized the exhibition as one of the top events in the travel industry, placing it among international fairs like ITB Berlin, Durban Indaba, WTM Cape Town, and WTM London.
The deputy chairman of HAZ, Emmah Kativu, emphasized the importance of the exhibition as an opportunity to present Zimbabwe’s distinct tourist attractions, including its fauna, traditions, historical sites, and culinary delights.
“It serves as a crucial venue to demonstrate our national identity. We invite all our members to come and take part,” she stated.
In addition to the primary exhibit, this year’s schedule includes additional special activities aimed at increasing participation possibilities.
Among them is the Tourism Investment Forum, where financiers, public servants, and business representatives will gather to explore prospects within the tourism supply network, as well as the Tourism Scholastica Conference, designed to offer an arena for scholars, scientists, and pupils to connect with professionals in the field.
For many years, the Sanganai Expo has become an essential component of Zimbabwe’s approach to promoting tourism, establishing the nation as a preferred travel spot across Africa and further afield.
By drawing in both regional and global vendors, it remains committed to supporting business-to-business connections, promoting tourism destinations, and generating potential for investments.
With Mutare set to welcome this year’s event, the yearly tourism exhibition is anticipated to create financial benefits for the region, enhancing hotel availability, transportation facilities, and local enterprises.
Above all, it will reinforce Zimbabwe’s image as an energetic, hospitable, and dynamic location within the international travel scene.

Morocco has been acknowledged as among the leading international travel spots for 2025, as stated in a publication from
Travel and Tour World
a website focused on the travel sector.
A North African nation has become part of an esteemed group which comprises Saudi Arabia, Malta, Qatar, El Salvador, Andorra, Serbia, Ethiopia, Colombia, and Albania. Every one of these locations gained recognition for distinctive characteristics that have drawn an increasing number of global tourists this year.
As per the report, Morocco experienced a 35% rise in visitor numbers in 2024 when measured against the figures from 2019 before the pandemic. Historic urban centers like Marrakech and Fez, desert excursions with camels in the Sahara, and climbing paths through the Atlas Mountains were noted as key draws for those looking for thrilling experiences.
The report noted, ‘Morocco presents a distinctive and engaging experience through its mix of Amazigh, Arabic, and European cultural elements.’ ‘The Roman remnants at Volubilis and lively traditional bazaars add to Morocco’s charm, making it an important historical and cultural site.’
The document further highlighted that Morocco, alongside Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Colombia, became notable travel spots because of various important reasons: strong investment in infrastructure, increased options for culture and exploration, more flexible visa regulations, and an increasing interest from tourists seeking genuine, engaging encounters.
Citing previous information from the United Nations World Tourism Organization, the platform highlighted almost full restoration in global travel when compared to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic, primarily fueled by increased demand from Asian-Pacific regions.
The most recent Global Tourism Index further indicates that contemporary tourists are placing greater emphasis on richer, more significant encounters, alongside convenience and security.
As per Morocco’s Ministry of Tourism, Crafts, and Social and Sustainable Development, the nation received 11.6 million visitors by the conclusion of July 2025, representing an increase of 16% compared to the corresponding time frame in 2024. During July only, Morocco documented 2.7 million incoming travelers, indicating a growth of 6% when contrasted with the prior year.
These numbers highlight the ongoing progress in Morocco’s tourism revival, establishing the nation as a pioneer in the worldwide resurgence of travel.

Several hotels situated in regions designated for the extension of Volcanoes National Park have not yet obtained formal information regarding their future status — whether they will continue operations there or require moving — nor do they understand how they will function after this development is completed, according to recent reports. Additionally, read: Details on the $255m volcano park expansion initiative.
The ambiguity became apparent during an advisory session held by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) with travel industry participants on Wednesday, August 20th, when hotel operator Paul Muvunyi voiced worries concerning the impact of the park’s growth on lodging services. It is believed that certain establishments falling within or close to these new borders consist of Bisate Lodge, Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, and Singita Kwitonda Lodge.
Muvunyi, who runs Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, stated portions of his establishment lie within the planned enlargement zone. He asked about potential effects on visitors and employees should the lodge fall entirely inside the park. “Our knowledge comes solely through informal channels,” he mentioned to The New Times. “Would our operation take place amidst gorillas? Trekking passes amount to $1,500 – what does this imply for those traveling back and forth? Would personnel also be obligated to cover such costs?”
Manzi Kayihura, CEO of Wilderness Rwanda, proprietor of Bisate Lodge, expressed comparable apprehensions, emphasizing that the RDB hasn’t clearly defined subsequent actions. “We’re waiting to find out,” he remarked, cautioning that shifting locations could incur substantial expenses.
In response to these anxieties, Irene Murerwa, Head of Tourism at RDB, affirmed the plan doesn’t aim to move enterprises. “Businesses won’t be affected; fewer than five may potentially experience changes,” she explained. Regarding possible payment obligations for visiting tourists due to being enclosed by the park, Murerwa rejected this idea saying, “This situation isn’t applicable. Gorillas aren’t entering structures. These creatures possess intelligence and recognize their environment.”
Why extend the park?
With a budget reaching up to $255 million (approximately Rwf367 billion), the enhancement seeks to enhance preservation initiatives, biological diversity, and local strength. An essential objective involves increasing living space for the rising number of critically threatened mountain gorillas along with additional fauna species. By 2028, this endeavor intends to increase the size of the reserve beyond 37 km² (or 3,700 ha). In addition, populations of mountain gorillas across the Virunga Massif increased from around 880 individuals in 2012 to above 1,063 currently, primarily because of protection measures combined with collaborative relationships involving communities. This massif includes parts of both Rwandan Volcanoes National Park as well as Congolese Virunga National Park plus Ugandan Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. For quite some time, Rwanda’s natural preserve encountered difficulties associated with restricted and scattered territory, something that this augmentation plans to resolve.
Lodging elsewhere
While accommodations haven’t typically existed directly inside Volcanoes National Park, several different reserves throughout Rwanda contain prominent tourist sites. Akagera Game Lodge, overseen by the Mantis Group, exists deep within Akagera National Park adhering strictly controlled access regulations including gate closure times before 6 p.m. Similarly, One & Only Nyungwe House based in Nyungwe Forest and Gishwati Lodge found within Gishwati-Mukura Natural Reserve manage themselves effectively following specific environmental standards. Now poised for considerable enhancements, accommodation providers nearby look forward towards gaining clear guidance determining if they’ll follow analogous procedures or risk needing to change location altogether.
