Keep scrolling for additional options—and remember to cast your vote in our poll for your preferred lone traveler location…

Tbilisi, Georgia

Helen Youngman, who manages a company specializing in solo travel vacations,
Aditi Travel
, I recommend visiting ancient Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia.

Helen informed MailOnline Travel: “Tbilisi is a vibrant and varied city featuring an ancient downtown area, striking Ottoman-style buildings, and friendly inhabitants, making it ideal for independent exploration.”

Unwind in the city’s renowned sulfur baths, savor wine tastings in charming underground pubs, and experience authentic Georgian warmth and gastronomy by having dinner at a local household.

‘Stay at:
Rooms Hotel Tbilisi
, situated within a charmingly refurbished structure and serves as an excellent starting point for immersing yourself in the dynamic local culture.’

Santiago, Chile

Nicky Kelvin
travel specialist and Senior Editor at
The Points Guy
, recommended a hotspot in South America that’s surrounded by the snow-capped Andes and Chilean Coast Range mountains – Santiago, the capital of Chile.

Nicky told MailOnline, “Chile is regarded as one of the safest nations in South and Latin America, with the capital city boasting particularly minimal criminal activity.”

After exploring beyond Santiago, you can relish skiing in the Andes, hiking through the Atacameña desert, and even participate in bicycle tours for wine tasting.

When it comes to breathtaking natural beauty, the untamed Chilean vistas are difficult to surpass.

Moreover, the whole nation boasts a significant hostel scene offering choices for all budgets—both economical and upscale—which makes meeting new people quite simple. If you prefer urban stays, Santiago provides numerous viewpoints within reach, excellent museums, and some delightful dining spots as well.

Berlin, Germany

Travelers looking to discover Europe have plenty of options – however, Nicky suggests the German capital for individuals setting off solo.

He observed: “Berlin is a city characterized by its low crime rate, outstanding public transit system, widespread use of English, and an atmosphere that encourages progressiveness, making it welcoming for nearly everyone.”

There are numerous hostels and complimentary tours available, making it simple for you to connect with other solo travelers in a relaxed setting.

‘Berlin also boasts an excellent public art trail, making walking around the city particularly convenient and enjoyable.’

Melbourne, Australia

Lee Dobson, co-founder of
Travel City
, offering evaluations and recommendations on destinations, encourages travelers to explore Australia.

He stated to MailOnline: “For those traveling alone, Melbourne shines as an excellent city getaway because of its dynamic cultural atmosphere, various districts, and friendly residents.”

The city is famous for its vibrant street art scene, thriving coffee culture, and an abundance of festivals. Independent travelers have the opportunity to check out the National Gallery of Victoria, wander through lanes brimming with distinctive boutiques and cafés, and unwind at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The vast tram system in Melbourne simplifies urban navigation. Additionally, the city serves as an ideal starting point for excursions to natural landmarks such as the Great Ocean Road and the Yarra Valley, great for short outings.

Taipei, Taiwan

Nicky from The Points Guy recommended that individuals traveling alone looking to discover Asia should consider visiting Taiwan, an island nation located off the eastern coastline of China.

While there, he suggested heading directly to Taipei.

He explained: ‘Taiwan is right up there with Japan in terms of safety – and [capital city] Taipei is much cheaper for a solo traveller to visit than Tokyo.

Given the wide array of accommodations available—ranging from affordable budget lodgings to upscale boutiques, along with reasonably priced big-brand hotels like those offered by Kimpton and Hilton—solo travelers have plenty of choices when looking for places to stay.

Many neighborhoods offer free walking tours which serve as great opportunities to meet fellow travelers who share similar interests; similarly, street food tours provide such chances.

‘an extra perk: The subway system in Taipei is pristine, well-organized, and secure. Interestingly, it also features classical music as the trains arrive.’

Best Time to Exercise for Fat Loss Revealed: Study Ends Debate

Best Time to Exercise for Fat Loss Revealed: Study Ends Debate

  • EXPLORE FURTHER: Fitness professionals share their insights on the optimal hour for exercising.

The eternal question remains: When is the optimal time of day to exercise?

However, a fascinating recent study appears to have addressed this issue.

A study conducted in Spain revealed that individuals who engaged in physical activities such as jogging or biking at 6 PM experienced reduced blood glucose levels compared to those who exercised earlier in the day.

The scientists contended that this indicated late exercisers exhibited greater activity
metabolism
and found it easier to withstand hunger cravings.

This indicated that they would both expend more calories throughout the day and take in lesser energy, they proposed.

Research indicates that typically, muscle cells tend to lose their ability to take up blood glucose during the evening hours due to a decrease in insulin levels at that time.

However, working out in the evening increases insulin levels, which makes it simpler for cells to take up glucose from the blood and use it as fuel.

In this study, scientists monitored 186 middle-aged Spaniards, primarily those who were obese, over a period of two weeks.

Every participant used an accelerometer for monitoring physical activity and a continuous blood glucose monitor to keep track of their blood sugar levels.

The exercise periods were divided into three segments: morning from 6 am to 12 pm, afternoon from 12 pm to 6 pm, or evening from 6 pm to 12 am.

The researchers subsequently contrasted blood glucose levels between inactive subjects, who abstained from exercising for 24 hours, and those who engaged in physical activity at various intervals.

Dr. Antonio Clavero-Jimeno, a sports scientist at the University of Granada,
Spain
, among others, noted in the study: ‘Engaging in exercise during the evening seems to positively impact blood glucose levels in inactive adults who are obese.’

The research was conducted solely among individuals who were obese or overweight, so it remains uncertain if these findings are applicable to people with a healthy weight.

However, this aligns with previous research indicating that working out later in the day is most effective for shedding pounds.

A research conducted at the University of Sydney, Australia, revealed that overweight individuals who engaged in physical activity post-6 pm exhibited roughly a 36 percent decreased likelihood of developing heart disease.

Of those who exercised prior to this period, the advantage was merely half as much—or equating to a 17 percent lower likelihood of developing the condition.

A study conducted in 2022 in Germany with 5,000 participants who were either overweight or obese discovered that individuals exercising in the evenings experienced up to a 25 percent decrease in their insulin resistance.

Several weight-loss studies indicate that exercising in the morning may be most effective for shedding pounds.

These findings are derived from data indicating that individuals who work out during these hours often have lower body weights compared to those who exercise in the evening.

However, these aspects do not consider other variables, like individuals who are more health-conscious may be inclined to begin their day with an exercise routine.

According to physicians, any level of physical activity at any point during the day can contribute to weight loss in individuals who are obese, provided they do not consume more calories than their body requires.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), individuals should aim for a minimum of 150 minutes of physical activity each week.

Study Finds Regular Walking Can Reduce Back Pain Relapse

Study Finds Regular Walking Can Reduce Back Pain Relapse

According to a recent study, individuals who walked for 30 minutes five times per week experienced a nearly 50% reduction in episodes of lower back pain. The researchers suggested that increased emphasis on preventative measures could result in significant cost savings down the line.

A recent study featured in the medical journal The Lancet suggests that frequent walking can be an inexpensive and simple method for possibly preventing various health issues.
recurring back pain
.

The trials demonstrated that patients who engaged in 30-minute walks five days per week and received guidance from a physical therapist experienced less frequent exacerbations compared to those in the control group.

The research team noted that patients experienced an enhanced perception of their overall quality of life, and the duration of work absence decreased by nearly fifty percent.

Inexpensive and simple activities suitable for nearly everyone.

The writers expressed optimism that these inexpensive and straightforward measures could have a “significant effect” on a condition that is the primary source of disability globally.

“Walking is an affordable, easily available, and straightforward form of physical activity that nearly everyone can participate in, irrespective of their geographical setting, age, or economic background,” stated co-author Mark Hancock, a physiotherapy professor at Macquarie University in Australia.

It is estimated that approximately 800 million individuals globally experience lower back pain. Among those who recuperate from an initial incident, about seven out of ten often encounter another bout within one year.

What was the process of the research like?

The research tracked 700 adults who had recently overcome an instance of lower back pain over a span of up to three years.

One half was randomly selected for a personalized walking regimen along with support from a physical therapist, whereas the remaining participants formed a control group and followed their own individual or medically recommended actions.

Hancock stated that the intervention group experienced less frequent activity-limiting pain than the control group, and also saw a prolonged average time until their next episode, with a median duration of 208 days versus 112 days for the control group.

How could walking benefit your back health?

“Although we’re not entirely sure why walking effectively helps prevent back pain, it probably involves several factors: the rhythmic up-and-down motions, which load and strengthen spinal components and surrounding muscles; the opportunity for relaxation and reduction of stress; and the boost from feel-good chemicals called endorphins,” Hancock suggested.

He mentioned that walking provided numerous additional significant health advantages, such as enhancing cardiovascular fitness, increasing bone density, promoting weight loss, and boosting mental well-being.

The researchers pointed out that lower back pain has increasingly become a widespread health issue globally due to extended lifespans and more inactive working and recreational activities.

They additionally mentioned that given the increasing strain on healthcare systems globally, an insufficient amount of resources was being allocated to research, prevention, and treatment in this field.

Lift for Life: Stay Healthy in Your 70s and Beyond with Strength Training

Lift for Life: Stay Healthy in Your 70s and Beyond with Strength Training

Abandon activities like lawn bowling or leisurely swimming; instead, seniors should consider taking up weightlifting for a healthier retirement, according to research.

Resistance training showed lasting strength advantages extending many years into retirement, rendering it an excellent choice of workout for older adults.

As individuals age, they inherently experience a decline in muscular functionality, which manifests as weakened grips and diminished leg power. These factors are considered significant indicators of mortality in senior citizens.

Weightlifting, using either free weights, your own bodyweight, or resistance bands, has been demonstrated to aid in preventing such occurrences.

Scientists aimed to investigate the lasting impacts of a year-long supervised strength-training regimen involving heavyweights.

With participants averaging the age of 71, 451 retirees were split into groups of either a year of heavy resistance training, moderate-intensity training or of no additional exercise on top of their usual activity.

Participants who were assigned specific weights engaged in programs three times weekly, whereas those involved in moderate-intensity training performed routines that included bodyweight exercises and resistance band workouts over the same duration.

Every workout in the strength training session consisted of three series with six to twelve reps, using seventy to eighty-five percent of the individual’s peak lifting capacity for each rep.

At the beginning of the study, measurements were taken for bone and muscle strength as well as body fat percentages. These same metrics were reassessed after one year, two years, and four years.

After four years, individuals in the heavy weight training group managed to maintain their leg strength, whereas those who did not exercise or only exercised moderately experienced a decline in strength during this period.

Publishing their findings in the journal BMJ Open Sport and Exercise Medicine, the researchers determined that “for healthy older individuals around retirement age, engaging in intense strength training for one year can lead to lasting positive impacts by maintaining muscular functionality.”

The three groups showed no distinction in leg extensor power—the capacity to forcefully and rapidly push against a pedal—handgrip strength (an indicator of general muscular strength), and lean leg mass (body weight minus fat content). All of these measures saw reductions across the board.

The levels of visceral fat, located internally around organs, went up for individuals who did not work out. However, these measurements remained unchanged among participants in both exercise groups.

The researchers, which included members from the University of Copenhagen, noted that participants in the study tended to be more physically active, averaging almost 10,000 steps per day, compared to the general public.

They included: “This research demonstrates that engaging in strength training using heavy weights even when people reach retirement age can yield benefits lasting for multiple years.”

Consequently, these findings offer tools for professionals and policymakers to motivate elderly people to participate in intense strength training sessions.

Women who run their own businesses reveal their strategies for attaining success.

A
Tennessee
The entrepreneur feared that their relationship with her spouse might be damaged following a tax discussion where it became evident that she was earning substantially more than him.

Amy Porterfield, aged 47, had a conversation with
Business Insider
Earlier this month, she discussed her marriage to Hobie and explained that being the primary earner did not ruin their partnership; instead, it necessitated certain adaptations from both individuals.

The entrepreneur is an author, digital marketing specialist, and the head of Amy Porterfield, Inc., having relocated to Nashville with her spouse about three years back.

Following their move, Amy and her spouse, whom she called “a real alpha male,” concluded that it was time for him to retire.

Challenges emerged due to Hobie’s premature retirement; however, the businesswoman informed Business Insider that these difficulties eventually reinforced and preserved their union.

Prior to Hobie’s significant career transition, he served as a general contractor with the aim of becoming a firefighter in California.

Amy served as the director of content development at Anthony Robbins Companies in San Diego, a position she held for almost seven years.

The entrepreneur told Business Insider that she felt motivated to take control of her projects after Anthony invited online marketers to attend a meeting.

She observed that the entrepreneurs at the meeting were setting their own working hours and enjoyed creative liberty, precisely what she desired.

Amy developed a business strategy, and in 2009, she established Amy Porterfield, Inc., a firm specializing in social media consulting. She serves as both the CEO and the host of the podcast titled “Online Marketing Made Easy,” featuring her insights under the same name.

The entrepreneur told Business Insider that she started earning more income than anticipated roughly two years following the establishment of her consulting firm.

The aim of Amy in establishing the company was to make money on her own terms rather than being the primary financial provider for Hobie and her stepson.

During its third year of operations, she achieved remarkable success with her business’s growth, which ultimately led to her earning more income than Hobie did.

During a tax consultation with their accountant, Amy found out that her earnings were higher than Hobie’s.

The online marketing specialist informed Business Insider that their accountant disclosed both her and Hobie’s annual earnings, revealing that she earned more than her spouse.

As a firefighter, Hobie earned an annual salary of $100,000, whereas Amy generated $1 million in revenue during the third year of running her business.

Hobie told Amy that he was proud of her for earning such a substantial income, but he admitted feeling strange knowing she was bringing home more money than he did.

Over the years, Amy’s salary remained higher than Hobie’s, and he consistently supported and applauded her achievements without reservation.

After relocating to Nashville, the pair engaged in an earnest discussion regarding Hobie’s future, resulting in him stepping down from his professional endeavors.

Amy informed Business Insider that she had the mobility for relocating due to her job, whereas Hobie’s profession didn’t offer similar flexibility.

According to requirements, Tennessee must acknowledge firefighting certifications granted by entities accredited by either the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress or the National Board of Professional Qualifications.
Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance
.

Even with this regulation, Amy mentioned that Hobie would have still been required to progress through the hierarchy once more at a different fire station.

Ultimately, they agreed that he should leave his job prematurely, and when speaking with Business Insider, Amy mentioned that her backing of this choice was stronger initially compared to Hobie.

Hobie struggled to adapt to retired life, feeling uneasy about not earning an income to support his family.

He also had trouble with the idea of not having a job that gave him a purpose, which made Amy fear that her husband would resent her for the decision.

Amy openly shared her concerns with Hobie regarding her fears, resulting in the two of them establishing rules on how to handle his upcoming retirement.

Although the entrepreneur brings home the income, Hobie takes charge of managing the household and overseeing their day-to-day affairs.

Hobie frequently handles tasks like running errands, taking care of yard work, doing laundry, and scheduling appointments.

He oversees both the upkeep of vehicles and the management of contractors along with renovation projects.

He and Amy continue to handle their investment and retirement accounts jointly, with him taking care of the bill payments. In the past year, she earned an impressive $20 million for their family and released a self-help book aimed at budding entrepreneurs.

Amy told Business Insider that she sometimes felt envious of Hobie’s leisurely moments when her day at work was particularly hectic.

Nevertheless, she was always touched when he would ask, “How can I simplify things for you? What do you require from me?” particularly when stress weighed heavy on her.

Amy’s business presently employs 23 people full-time, with a significant number being female workers.

The entrepreneur, who authored “Two Weeks Notice: Find the Courage to Quit Your Job, Make More Money, Work Where You Want, and Change the World,” told Business Insider that she serves as an example of a lifestyle that many women may believe is unattainable for them.

Regarding her bond with her spouse, she emphasizes that open dialogue has been crucial for sustaining their robust relationship as their domestic responsibilities have changed over time.

Why Ibiza Is Every Travel Writer’s Dream Getaway: Discover the Magic Beyond the Beaches

Why Ibiza Is Every Travel Writer’s Dream Getaway: Discover the Magic Beyond the Beaches

  • Samantha Lewis from MailOnline states that the Spanish island always impresses.

  • READ MORE:
British Airways flight attendants rescue an 80-year-old passenger.

Ibiza is renowned as a party destination where people often let loose and dance all night until dawn, yet I have had quite different experiences with this island.

As with many others, I was captivated by a less known aspect of the White Isle, one that showcases tranquil villages, beautiful shores, and rejuvenating spa resorts.

During my initial trip to Ibiza, which took place during a family vacation when I was a teenager, we stayed for seven days at a hotel near the tranquil town of Santa Eulalia. This hotel was just steps away from a beautiful sandy shoreline.

I recall it as a relaxed vacation where I spent considerable time in the water and indulged in ice cream nearly every day. Simply reminiscing about it brings a smile to my face.

Since then, I’ve returned to Ibiza several times to relax and discover more, with my latest visit being towards the end of last summer when the island was beginning to slow down for the season. It was just as enchanting as ever. Ibiza consistently impresses me—and here’s why…

1. World-class hotels

Ibiza boasts several luxurious accommodations—from trendy Bohemian-style hideaways to revamped traditional spots that prioritize cutting-edge interior design.

One of the most sought-after properties is the Montesol Experimental hotel, located right in the center of Ibiza Town.

It first opened as the Gran Hotel Montesol in 1933 and has welcomed an array of notable guests, including Orson Welles, Pink Floyd, and Princess Caroline of Monaco.

In 2021, the sleek neo-colonial estate was acquired by the Experimental Group, resulting in an impressive renovation.

Leading the redesign effort was Paris-based interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon, known for her work on several notable hotels globally, including the Grand Pigalle Hotel in Paris and Cowley Manor in Gloucestershire. Under her vision, Montesol’s 30 rooms and three suites have been converted into a captivating haven featuring soft pastel hues, complemented by wicker lighting fixtures and uniquely shaped furnishings.

Additionally, there’s an enchanting cosmic theme, with moon designs scattered throughout.

2. Sensational beaches

When it comes to beaches, Ibiza offers an abundance of options. The island boasts over 80 beaches ranging from charming secluded coves to magnificent stretches with pristine white sand.

Fortunately, due to Ibiza’s fairly compact dimensions (you can travel from north to south in roughly an hour), you aren’t restricted to exploring just one or two areas.

You could spend days moving from one beach to another, trying to visit as many as you can.

Make sure to visit Cap des Falco, a rocky coastline in the south where you can discover the Experimental Beach club.

Managed by the same hotel, the golden sand beach features rows of pristine white sun loungers and daybeds providing excellent vistas of the sea and stunning sunsets. As you make your way there, the route will take you through the Los Salinas salt flats, which are frequented by vibrant flocks of pink flamingos.

To experience the island’s bohemian atmosphere, visit Benirras in the northern part, where each Sunday attracts drummers who gather at the beach, bonfires are ignited, and the sunset is honored.

For family-friendly options, consider Cala Gracioneta, a picturesque beach with white sand where both tourists and locals gather due to its peaceful atmosphere under shaded trees, crystal-clear water, and quieter ambiance.

3. Delicious local cuisine

Usually, meals start with freshly baked bread along with aioli (a garlicky mayonnaise). These are accompanied by carafes of wine and traditional sangria.

A number of eateries will similarly offer dishes like patatas bravas, croquettes, grilled octopus, and a fine paella.

The classic Ibiza paella called paella de mariscos comes loaded with squid, mussels, shrimp, clams, and scallops. It arrives at the table in large steaming pots meant for everyone to enjoy together.

Another must-try specialty includes butifarra sausage—a pâté made from pork, bacon, and various spices, generously spread over rustic bread—and sofrit pagès, a robust meat stew featuring ingredients like chicken, lamb, and Ibizan sausages.

4. Artisan shopping

Ditch the typical fridge magnets and keychains; Ibiza provides genuinely distinctive trinkets to bring back as souvenirs.

Es Cana is famous for its ‘hippie markets’ where local sellers display their handcrafted items ranging from kaftans, crocheted bikinis, silver jewelry, leather bags, and much more.

Dedicated buyers ought to visit the historic and largest Hippy Market Punta Arabi, located every Wednesday from April to October in Es Cana. This lively event features over 500 booths, offering plenty of exploration for visitors who could happily lose themselves here all day. Additionally, on Saturdays, another notable market called Las Dalias Hippy Market convenes in San Carlos.

These are complemented by numerous local artisans’ markets spread across the island, offering items ranging from ceramics to handmade soaps.

5. Mysterious natural wonders

It is undeniable that Ibiza exerts a particular allure, with many attributing this fascination to the enigmatic rock of Es Vedra.

Located off the southwestern coast of the island, folklore suggests that this unoccupied rock formation is the third most magnetic spot globally, following the Bermuda Triangle and the North Pole.

The towering limestone monolith stands at an impressive height of 400 meters (1,312 ft) and is undoubtedly captivating.

Don’t miss the chance to admire it from the cliffs above Cala d’Hort beach in Sant Josep, where the views are uninterrupted, and particularly atmospheric at sunset.

6. World-class wellness

Discover the secrets to longevity at Six Senses Ibiza.

The upscale resort in the island’s bohemian northern region has elevated hotel wellness experiences to an entirely new dimension following the introduction of its ‘
RoseBar longevity club
