The sum of money you ought to put into a certificate of deposit varies based on your individual situation. Take these aspects into account to figure out the perfect amount.
Certain banks and credit unions set minimum deposit conditions for their certificate of deposits (CDs). These stipulations can affect which individuals qualify to open an account.
start a certificate of deposit account
For instance, certain banks mandate a minimum deposit of $1,000, $2,500, or sometimes even higher amounts to initiate a Certificate of Deposit (CD).
If your savings fall short of this amount yet you desire a fixed interest rate, consider searching for financial institutions offering lower minimal deposit thresholds or none at all. Some banks provide certificates of deposits (CDs) without needing any minimum balance or initial funding.

.
Despite meeting the minimal opening deposit for a certificate of deposit (CD), think about your overall savings. Financial advisors typically suggest keeping enough funds to cover three to six months of expenses.
emergency savings
hidden funds, amounting to $15,000 to $30,000 for an individual whose monthly living costs total $5,000.
You might consider allocating some of your savings to a certificate of deposit (CD) that offers a fixed interest rate, rather than putting everything in one place. The remainder could then go elsewhere.
high-yield savings account
(HYSA) which accrues a substantial amount of interest and does not impose any charges when you withdraw your funds. The drawback with this option is
savings accounts
(unlike CDs) is because their interest rates fluctuate according to market conditions.
Aside from the readily accessible funds in your savings account, think about the credit available to you via credit cards or revolving credit lines. You can utilize these credit resources for unexpected costs, particularly those you plan to settle quickly.
Suppose you face an unexpected car repair costing $1,000, and your liquidity is low. Nonetheless, you might manage to cover the expense by paying it off gradually over your coming two salaries.
In that scenario, you might consider charging the cost to an account.
credit card
and settle it with each paycheck received—while maintaining your funds in a savings account or certificate of deposit. Certain credit cards also provide an additional option for this.
0% APR
For a limited period, this allows customers to use their purchases as an interest-free, short-term loan.
An additional aspect influencing your contribution to a Certificate of Deposit (CD) is the timing for when you’ll require these particular savings. This consideration can affect both the amount you wish to set aside and the duration of the CD term you choose.
If you’ve got $5,000 set aside with plans not to touch it for at least one year, think about opting for a certificate of deposit that extends up to twelve months. When this CD hits its maturity date, you can choose either to withdraw your funds or extend the investment for an additional period.
If you’ve got some funds that you’re aware you’ll need to withdraw soon (within several weeks or months), opening a certificate of deposit might not be ideal. Consider instead placing your money in a savings account where you can retrieve it without penalties whenever needed.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) states that FDIC insurance covers up to $250,000 for each depositor under every ownership category at each FDIC-insured bank. Likewise, a comparable form of protection known as NCUA insurance extends to deposits at financial institutions like credit unions.
credit unions
This indicates that should a bank fail and cease operations, your federally protected monies will still be refunded to you.
It does not imply that you mustn’t possess over $250,000 in certificates of deposit (CDs). Rather, it suggests that if your savings exceed this $250,000 limit and you intend to invest in CDs, you ought to distribute these investments across various FDIC-insured banks.
Additionally, keep in mind that large quantities of CDs are described as
jumbo CDs
Jumbo CDs function similarly to regular certificates of deposit; however, they require higher initial deposits (usually $100,000 or above).
While there aren’t strict guidelines on the size of your Certificate Deposit (CD), it’s important to consider federal insurance limitations and refrain from placing over $250,000 into a single CD at an individual bank or credit union. Additionally, familiarize yourself with various financial institution’s minimal investment criteria to find a CD that provides optimal returns based on your savings amount.
If you’ve set aside some funds specifically for a certificate of deposit (CD) but aren’t sure about the duration you wish to tie up your money, you could opt to start one anytime.
CD ladder
to boost liquidity while getting the highest possible interest during the process.
Using CD laddering, you divide your funds among various certificates of deposit (CDs) with differing maturity periods. As an illustration, consider allocating $15,000 across three CDs worth $5,000 each but maturing at distinct intervals: 6 months, one year, and 18 months respectively. This approach ensures that a portion of your money becomes available every half-year; either allowing withdrawal for usage or rolling over into new CDs.
You aren’t bound by strict guidelines when it comes to the number of certificates of deposit (CDs) you can own. You may establish multiple CD accounts at various banks and credit unions, choosing from a wide range of term lengths according to what’s available.
Make sure you do not end up with more CDs than you can easily manage or monitor. Remember, numerous certificate of deposits will roll over automatically unless withdrawn during the specified grace period. These grace periods tend to be quite brief—typically around ten days—which does not provide much leeway. Should your collection of CDs become overwhelming and you lose sight of each one’s maturity date and associated grace period, you might face difficulties, potentially having to incur penalties for early withdrawal.
early withdrawal penalty
to access your funds.
The quantity you ought to set aside in a certificate of deposit is a matter of individual choice, yet it’s an important one that requires careful thought. Keep these suggestions in mind to maximize your savings efforts.
The suitable sum to invest in a Certificate of Deposit hinges on your savings capacity and when you anticipate needing the funds. Keep in mind that CDs demand locking away your money for a predetermined period, with penalties usually applied for accessing these funds prematurely.
Certificates of deposit have set interest rates, and generally do not impose charges aside from penalties for withdrawing funds prematurely.
Certain banks and credit unions allow you to initiate a Certificate of Deposit with any sum, but some require a minimum deposit such as $500, $1,000, $2,500, or even higher amounts. Therefore, the initial investment needed for a CD varies based on which bank you choose.

Achieving a minimum of 10,000 steps daily has commonly been regarded as the benchmark for physical activity.
A study indicates that concentrating on the duration of your exercise might be equally effective as counting the number of steps you take.
weight loss
, increased lifespan and a lower chance of developing heart diseases.
Scientists from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston examined four years of data covering approximately 15,000 women who were more than 62 years old.
Every participant utilized a fitness tracker for monitoring their activity levels and completed annual health questionnaires each year.
The group discovered that individuals performing between 8,000 and 8,500 steps each day decreased their likelihood of developing heart disease by 40%, as opposed to those taking roughly 3,000 steps daily.

Moreover, they discovered that the same level of risk reduction applied to individuals who exercised for 75 minutes daily, indicating that tracking steps might not be necessary.
This study is among multiple recent publications to
debunk the 10,000-step rule
, according to some experts, there isn’t a single ‘magical’ figure when it comes to exercise routines.
Dr. Rikuta Hamaya, who led the study and works as a researcher at the Division of Preventative Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, stated: “For many people, particularly those who are younger, exercises such as playing tennis, football, taking walks, or going jogging can often be monitored through step counts.”
Nevertheless, for some individuals, it might include activities like cycling or swimming, where tracking the length of workouts is more straightforward. This underscores the importance of having varied options within physical activity recommendations to help people achieve their objectives.
‘Movement looks different for everyone and nearly all forms of movement are beneficial to our health.’
The group enrolled 14,399 women above the age of 62 who were deemed healthy, indicating that they had neither heart disease nor cancer. On average, the participants’ age was 72 years old.
From 2011 to 2015, every woman was instructed to keep a fitness tracker attached to her waist continuously, even when sleeping or taking showers.
Every year, the researchers distributed surveys covering aspects such as health practices including smoking and alcohol consumption, along with measurements of height and weight, details about menopause status, and records of both individual and familial medical backgrounds.
These were utilized to assess the participants’ likelihood of developing heart disease and facing mortality.
The team continued following up with the women throughout 2022.
Typically, participants were active for about 62 minutes each week through moderate-to-vigorous exercises and accumulated around 5,183 steps daily. As of 2022, nine percent of them had passed away and four percent were diagnosed with heart disease.
The women were grouped into percentile categories according to the total minutes they spent exercising or the count of their daily steps.
The research revealed that individuals who exercised for approximately 200 minutes per week or managed around 8,000 to 8,500 steps daily had a reduction in their risk of developing heart disease and dying by as much as 40% when contrasted with people in the bottom tier (who only got nine to twelve minutes of exercise or accumulated roughly 2,800 to 3,000 steps).
The research indicates that patients have the option to select either a step-based approach or a timed-goal strategy to reduce their chances of mortality or cardiovascular disorders, as stated by the researchers.
These findings bolster the argument for incorporating both time-dependent and steps-focused criteria into upcoming physical activity recommendations, providing people with the option to select and monitor their favored measure of engagement.
Therefore, healthcare providers might advise women aged 60 or above to utilize either time-based or step-based objectives, based on their individual preferences, for tracking their physical activity levels.
The study had multiple constraints, primarily due to the majority of participants being white females from higher economic backgrounds. Furthermore, since the research was observational, these findings lack confirmation.
The research was released on Monday in

Following a torrential rainstorm, 12 young members of the Wild Boars soccer club along with their coach found themselves ensnared far beneath the earth within a flooded cave system, unable to escape.
A global initiative encompassing divers, engineers, and volunteers
led to their rescue
from a rocky ledge 4km (2.5 miles) from the cave entrance.
Today, Tham Luang draws aficionados eager to discover the renowned location.
In Chamber 3, located 800 meters (0.5 miles) deep within, the space served as a control hub and storage facility for oxygen tanks, ropes, and communication cables. This region has been made accessible through guided group tours organized by forestry personnel along with local experts.
Each excursion lasts around three hours, and although they’re not risky, travelers must walk through some tight passages one at a time.
Combining elements of the bizarre with the eerie, the Paris Catacombs form a chilling underground burial ground holding the ancient bones of approximately six million Parisians. (In this crowded spot within the heavily visited city of Paris, you’ll appreciate having plenty of fellow visitors nearby.)
Initially constructed atop an extensive system of ancient limestone mines, this intricate network of subterranean passageways came into existence during the latter part of the 1700s as a solution for storing human remains due to insufficient space in nearby burial grounds.
Today, they remain intact: skulls in one section, femurs and hip bones in another—scientists are still uncertain about their original pairings.
Referred to as a repository of human remains, this chilling bone chamber attracts many visitors. Guided tours covering a 1.6-kilometer stretch of the underground hall of dread typically take around one hour.
During the Cold War era, Albania braced itself for military assaults that never materialized. Terrified of invasions from both capitalist and communist powers alike, the suspicious autocrat Enver Hoxha turned the struggling Balkan nation into one of the most fortified and secluded states globally.
Defenses encompassed the nationwide erection of approximately 175,000 structures.
concrete and steel fortifications
Some were big enough to accommodate soldiers or even whole village communities. Naturally, none of these sturdy bunkers ever saw action.
The true intent was to maintain fear among the Albanian population regarding external threats, thereby ensuring they remained utterly reliant on the domineering leader for protection and security.
A significant number of the military pillboxes were left unused following the fall of communism in the early 1990s; several have subsequently been converted into storage spaces, coffee shops, exhibition centers, and lodging establishments.
Discovered by Chinese refugees escaping Japanese forces during World War II, the Reed Flute Cave, located in Guilin, Guang Xi, was named after the local vegetation that was utilized for crafting conventional musical tools.
It is said that the enchanting melody created by the wind passing through the reeds inspired early Chinese flute players to create their compositions.
Today, the limestone cave close to Guilin presents a stunning array of stalactites, stalagmites, and stone columns. Lit up artificially, these structures look like various objects, animals, and mythological beings, turning the space into an underground sculpture museum.
The cave features ink writings such as poems and travel accounts, along with additional signs of human occupation that date over a millennium ago.
Situated on Corregidor Island within Manila Bay, the Malinta Tunnel complex consists of a 3,000-meter web of linked passages built by the US Army from 1922 to 1932.
The fortified bunker and storage complex included living quarters for personnel, office spaces, a power plant, and an air circulation system. It was later expanded to include a 1,000-bed medical center.
In 1942, during the Battle of Corregidor, the tunnel functioned as the command center for U.S. General Douglas MacArthur and also acted as the seat of governance for the Philippine Commonwealth government.
During peak operation times, over 4,000 individuals resided within the expansive military fortress.
In recent times, trams and walking tours have become favorites among tourists, whereas a sound and light show narrates the bravery, struggles, and atrocities experienced during wartime.
In a location deeply connected with mortality (where thousands of Japanese soldiers chose to take their own lives within the tunnels), it comes as no shock that certain visitors report hearing terrifying shrieks and catching glimpses of faint, spectral forms.
The National Coal Mining Museum for England highlights the legacy of the coal industry in Britain from the time of the Industrial Revolution in the 1700s.
Close to Overton in West Yorkshire, at one of the nation’s most historic coal mines, anxious guests cram into an old elevator that takes them down 140 meters (460 feet) beneath the earth.
Ex-miners serve as guides, blending their amusing personal stories with stark tales of past workplace hardships.
They outline the dangers miners encountered, the lack of safety regulations, and the prevalent use of child labor — whole families frequently labored together at the coal face.
Your guide will likewise talk about the displays, such as mining equipment from earlier times.
Up at the shaft top, the lines of lockers, showers, and metal bathtubs appear much more pristine compared to their condition during peak mining operations. Keep in mind to wear warm clothing as it can get quite cold below ground level.
Hang Son Doong
In Vietnam, this cave has been acknowledged as the largest in the world; however, when local farmer Ho Khanh first discovered its entrance in 1991, he was unaware of its importance.
Initially, the roar of flowing water and powerful blasts of wind discouraged him from exploring further. He found it challenging to recall the cave’s whereabouts during later trips.
In 2008, he finally located its position again and reached out to a group of British cavers who measured the passage and verified that it extended for at least 5 kilometers (3.1 miles).
In addition to underground rivers and lakes, a vibrant jungle habitat, 400-million-year-old fossils, and breathtaking geological structures, the cave also houses plant and animal species that cannot be found anywhere else on our planet.
By 2018, a new team of British cavers determined that Hang Son Doong is at minimum one-third bigger and considerably deeper than earlier estimates suggested.
And the trio who made this assertion? Jason Mallinson, Rick Stanton and Chris Jewell, who were key members of the team that had rescued the trapped Thai soccer players from Tham Luang Cave a year earlier.

Atok, Benguet (289 kms)
Atok in Benguet has consistently been a preferred destination for travelers journeying through the Cordillera using the Halsema Highway. For many years, Barangay Cattubo in Atok, which sits at 2,255 meters above sea level, held the title as the highest point within the Philippine highway network until this recognition shifted to Tinoc. Nonetheless, Atok isn’t merely a pitstop; it’s also a captivating location where visitors can spend multiple days exploring. Thanks to its elevated position, Atok ranks among the chilliest spots in the country—more so than both Baguio and Sagada.
Atok features numerous flower farms you can tour, with the Northern Blossom Flower Farm being particularly notable for its expansive fields filled with vibrant blooms spread across many hectares. Besides these floral attractions, Atok provides various sites worth visiting including Sakura Park, Wagangan Rock Formations, the Osocan Spanish Trail, and Mount Timbak.
Malico, San Nicolas, Pangasinan (216 kilometers away)
The recently launched Villaverde Trail, which links San Nicolas in Pangasinan with Santa Fe in Nueva Vizcaya, is a paradise for thrill-seekers. This route provides breathtaking views as you travel across the Caraballo mountain range, offering tourists insights into one of the significant conflicts from World War II along with sampling locally grown highland veggies and fruits. Spanning a length of 46 kilometers between San Nicolas and Santa Fe, this freshly finished path ascends to approximately 1,300 meters above sea level at Barangay Malico, where numerous lodgings now welcome travelers looking to extend their stays. Additionally, guests may enjoy activities like camping, hiking, exploring cascades, and indulging in berry-picking adventures.
Gumaca, Quezon (214 kms)
One of the earliest towns in Quezon province, Gumaca offers visitors who are keen on history, tradition, and artistic expression a fascinating destination. Numerous ancestral homes along the town’s historic roads remain open for tourists wanting to admire their impressive Castilian style and charm. Established initially in 1582, the grand San Diego de Alcala Cathedral preserves its stunning Baroque structure alongside its initial Neo-Gothic altar piece and intricate trompe-l’oeil ceiling art.
Also located here is the Baluarte de San Diego de Alcala, a fort constructed in the 18th century to protect the town against pirates. The ideal time to explore Gumaca is on May 15, when they celebrate the yearly Arana’t Baluarte Festival. This event serves as a gratitude celebration for the plentiful yields harvested annually by local farmers.

Luna, La Union (297 km)
Previously called Namacpacan (derived from an Ilocano term meaning “the provider”), the town was later named after Doña Laureana Novicio Luna, the mother of Juan and Antonio, both natives of Namacpacan. The municipality is recognized as a significant pilgrimage destination due to the revered Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception of Namacpacan, famous for numerous reported miracles and healings.
Luna is famous for its cobblestone beaches found in Nalvo Sur and Dariagayos. The structure known as Bahay na Boto, built completely out of stones, attracts many visitors in Luna. Within Barangay Victoria, remnants of an ancient Spanish sentry tower, referred to as Baluarte, stand as a testament to Namacpacan’s significance as a surveillance site back when Spain ruled the area.
Baler, Aurora (271 kms)
One of my go-to spots when I want some solitude is Baler. The picturesque journey via Pantabangan Dam and Sierra Madre leading into this charming coastal town never fails to impress me. In Baler, rising with the dawn allows one to witness an awe-inspiring sunrise over the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. While renowned among surfing enthusiasts, Baler also serves as a delightful spot for those who just want to immerse themselves in the local culture, savor regional cuisine, and mingle with friendly locals.
Baler serves as a key starting point for explorations of the Pacific region: hiking to secluded waterfalls, discovering tucked-away coves and shores, and enjoying interactions with the welcoming Dumagat people.
