Destinations as Stunning as Turkey—But Far More Affordable

Destinations as Stunning as Turkey—But Far More Affordable

Every year, millions travel to Turkey for their summer vacations, seeking beautiful beaches, affordable costs, and exceptional food.

However, there are alternative locations that provide comparable opulence at a price lower than half of a standard journey to a popular European destination.

According to
Eurochange
Holidays in well-known destinations across Turkey—such as Antalya and Bodrum—are experiencing significant price hikes along with a decrease in visitors.

Skyscanner offers round-trip flights from
London
The travel money firm announced deals to Bodrum in August, with prices beginning at £285 per adult.

A week-long stay at a four-star fully inclusive hotel for a family of four might amount to £5,755.

Renowned travel specialist Laura Evans-Fisk has shared three hidden gem destinations ideal for budget-conscious travelers seeking an international getaway.

She mentioned: “There are still several excellent options for families seeking sunny conditions, stunning coastlines, and an experience of regional traditions without spending too much.”

Among Laura’s recommendations is Albania, known for its “breathtaking shorelines and Mediterranean appeal.”

Travelers can secure round-trip flights from London to Tirana in August for £194 per adult, as reported by Eurochange.

A vacation for a family of four lasting seven nights at a four-star fully inclusive hotel may cost as low as £2,713.

“Albania has subtly emerged as one of the most thrilling and budget-friendly vacation spots in Europe,” Laura mentions.

She says, “It provides several similar attractions to Turkey: pristine water, robust food, historical sites, and friendly service, yet without the throngs of people or high costs.”

A travel specialist raves about Albania’s coastline, extending from Vlore to Sarande, highlighting ‘stunning beaches featuring sapphire-colored waters, striking cliffs, and picturesque seaside villages’.

Laura also suggests checking out Ksamil and Dhermi, which she claims offer strong competition to Bodrum and Antalya.

Albanian cuisine is also designed to make an impression, featuring a variety of fresh fish, grilled meats, and regional cheeses.

“Meals tend to be reasonably priced and plentiful, particularly at locally-owned eateries where service is considered an important part of their identity,” Laura says.

Regarding locations to explore in order to experience Albania’s heritage and past, Berat is a city recognized by UNESCO, whereas Butrint features remnants from ancient Rome.

“You can still experience the blend of Ottoman, Greek, and Roman influences in the buildings, cuisine, and customs, without dealing with large groups of visitors,” said the travel specialist.

She says, “Another big attraction is its remarkably affordable nature. Lodging, vehicle rental, and dining out are significantly less expensive compared to Turkey, and because Albania doesn’t belong to the Eurozone, your currency stretches farther.”

Another location worth considering is Bulgaria, which provides comparable sights to Turkey but for much less money.

Flights back from London to Burgas in August cost £253 per adult, whereas a fully inclusive vacation for a group of four may be secured for £2,191.

Boasting numerous seaside destinations, Bulgaria provides an equally welcoming environment for families, along with a blend of cultural experiences and beachfront scenery similar to what Turkey offers.

“Many people ignore the Bulgarian coastline along the Black Sea, yet it provides similar advantages to Turkey’s coastal areas in the Mediterranean,” Laura mentions.

Resorts such as Sunny Beach, Nessebar, and Sozopol offer sand shores, tranquil warm seas, and numerous children-friendly attractions, yet they typically cost half as much as well-known Turkish destinations like Marmaris or Bodrum, particularly during school breaks.

Regarding the cuisine, there are many parallels with Turkish cooking, including grilled meats, fresh salads, and yogurt-based sauces.

“Meals outside won’t significantly affect your vacation money, and many eateries accommodate children and families well,” Laura adds.

Additionally, Bulgaria stands out as one of the most cost-effective places in Europe for all-inclusive vacations. Family-friendly resorts cater specifically to children, providing facilities such as swimming pools, youth clubs, recreational activities, and convenient access to the beach.

You receive the complete service you would anticipate in Turkey, yet at a lower cost.

An alternative choice for families seeking an affordable getaway is northern Morocco.

Flights from London to Tangier in August start at £299 per adult, with a fully inclusive vacation for a family of four available for as low as £2,509.

Laura says, “If you’re looking for the colors, culture, and coastal beauty of Turkey but prefer something slightly less well-known, Northern Morocco provides an excellent option filled with character and good value.”

It makes an excellent choice for families seeking sunshine, yet offers a little something different.

A travel specialist suggests visiting northern coastal regions such as Tangier, Asilah, and Tetouan, which all offer a mix of Mediterranean seaside atmosphere combined with a North African influence.

“Imagine white-painted villages, relaxed coastal walkways, and extended golden sand shores ideal for children,” Laura exclaims.

It’s not as advanced as Turkey’s lively seaside destinations, resulting in smaller groups of visitors and a more genuine atmosphere, yet still maintaining the key elements for a family vacation.

She adds: ‘

Culture enthusiasts will find plenty to appreciate here. Tangier used to be a favorite spot for artists and authors, and it presents a blend of Moroccan, Spanish, and French elements evident in its buildings, cuisine, and bazaars.

The historic centers of Tetouan and Chefchaouen offer secure, pedestrian-friendly environments rich in heritage, resembling the alleys of Istanbul yet without the same level of congestion.

Moroccan food is also sure to please, offering dishes like grilled fish, couscous, and freshly baked bread that often appear on restaurant menus.

It also won’t be expensive, “Dining out is budget-friendly and suitable for families, featuring gentle seasonings and quality ingredients,” Laura says.

Travel expenses and lodging tend to be more affordable compared to Turkey, with numerous charming places to stay available.

‘She added, flights to Tangier from the UK are also rising, as budget airlines have made travel easier than before.’

Cruise Captain’s 20-Year Journey: My Favorite European Escape 🌍✈️

Cruise Captain’s 20-Year Journey: My Favorite European Escape 🌍✈️

  • Nico Berg, ex-captain of AIDA Cruises, mentions that the location “feels like home”

A retired cruise line commander has revealed what he considers one of the top places to explore in Europe — and it turns out to be an obscure treasure rarely visited by large groups of travelers.

Having spent over two decades navigating the seas aboard both cruise and freight vessels, Captain Nico Berg has explored nearly all parts of the globe—yet one location continues to stand out in his memory.

He considers
Germany
‘Hamburg is a top destination in Europe, particularly for travelers seeking an alternative to more popular spots like Rome or Paris.’

In an interview with
Wine Traveler
The former captain of AIDA Cruises, which was previously owned by Germans, stated that nothing surpasses traveling along the Elbe at dawn and arriving at Hamburg Harbor.

The river Elbe, which passes through the Czech Republic and Germany on its way to the North Sea, was one of Nico’s preferred paths.

Spanning 680 miles, the river flows through mountainous regions, rural landscapes, and ultimately reaches the center of Hamburg — an experience he describes as unforgettably remarkable.

He mentioned the “remarkable” scenery as the vessel moored ahead of the harbor piers’ bend, with the sunrise appearing behind the iconic Hamburg Michel church.

Nico said: “Even though I am at home everywhere around the globe as a sailor, Hamburg always makes me feel like I’m returning home. As our vessel departs from Hamburg Harbor, visitors line up along the Elbe River and enthusiastically wave at us.”

The ex-captain suggests the Speicherstadt, also known as the “City of Warehouses,” for newcomers.

This vast network of canals and brick-built storage facilities used to be a duty-free trading region, and is currently recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Speicherstadt covers an area of 260,000 square meters, holding the title of the biggest storage facility globally.

For a close-up perspective, the ideal approach is to board a tiny boat and navigate the network of tight canals.

Nowadays, Speicherstadt functions as a lively center, featuring various museums, spice stores, and an extensive miniature train exhibition.

Interestingly, the area continues to manage coffee, cocoa, and electronics exactly as it did over 100 years ago.

Nico also suggests visiting Hamburg’s unusual and historical St. Pauli Elbe Tunnel, which was inaugurated in 1911, located under the river and accessible for walkers and bicyclists.

He additionally encourages guests to explore the city’s famous Fish Market, operational every Sunday morning since 1703. Those who get up early will find a variety of offerings including live performances and freshly caught sea food.

Meanwhile, a

Istanbul Tops Singapore Changi as World’s Favorite Airport This Year

Istanbul, Turkey, has been named the top preferred international airport globally for this year, surpassing Singapore Changi, according to 657,000 votes from readers of the U.S.-based publication Travel+Leisure.

Istanbul Airport achieved a rating of 98.57 out of 100 in this year’s World’s Best Awards poll, which evaluated airports according to factors including accessibility, check-in and security procedures, dining options, retail spaces, and architectural style.

A passenger praised the airport’s “bright and open layout. Clear directions.”

One individual stated, “It represents a client-focused, dependable, and thriving air travel facility. I would describe it as the top airport globally.”

A variety of cafés and restaurants can be found at Istanbul Airport, serving dishes from both Turkish and international cuisines.

Bakery shops, pastry stores, cafes, well-known coffee outlets, quick-service eateries, and self-serve dining areas offer a variety of flavors for travelers.

Qatar’s Hamad International Airport ranked third, with Zayed International Airport and Dubai International Airport from the United Arab Emirates coming next.

The remaining entries in the top 10 included Hong Kong International Airport (China), Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (Finland), Haneda Tokyo Airport (Japan), Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (India), and Incheon International Airport located in South Korea.

In the previous year, visitors to the American publication Condé Nast Traveler also selected Istanbul Airport as the top airport globally during the yearly Readers’ Choice Awards, outperforming Changi.

Ghana Champions Trans-Africa Tourism with Visa-Free Vision

The Ghana High Commission is leading a Trans-Africa Tourism and Solidarity Initiative, designed to encourage movement and collaboration throughout the region as the effort strives to eliminate visa restrictions and enhance tourism across Africa.

The Minister for Consular Affairs of the Ghana High Commission in Nigeria, Inusa Ziblim, during a press briefing held in Abuja on Monday, stated that the initiative aims to eliminate visa restrictions and enhance travel across Africa.

He stated that besides merely eliminating visa restrictions, it aims to encourage travel across Africa.

Ziblim further revealed that the Ghanaian High Commission has reached out to Nigerian governmental representatives, such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Tourism, to address the initiative.

In response to worries regarding safety, Ziblim provided instances of open mobility pacts among nations that did not result in negative security consequences.

“If you examine the statistics, the numbers do not indicate that opening your borders inevitably leads to safety issues,” she stated.

He further mentioned that expensive airfares significantly discourage movement within Africa, since flights to different African nations cost twice or even three times more than those to Europe, with additional remarks about how airport fees and levies increase overall expenses.

Ziblim noted that lowering taxes at global airports and encouraging airlines to avoid leveraging their dominance on specific routes might be beneficial.

“If the government lowers taxes, and airlines do not take advantage of their monopolistic position, it could bring about change,” he stated.

He mentioned that greater commerce and movement across Africa would result in more passengers, thereby enhancing the sustainability of air routes for carriers.

“If we start trading more within the sub-region and subsequently across the continent, as well as traveling internally, and if visas aren’t required, there is a chance we could move around more freely,” she stated.

Ziblim highlighted the significance of tackling the expensive airfares and encouraging movement within Africa to boost the region’s economic growth and solidarity.

“I believe these are some of the challenges. If you start trading more inside the sub-region, and also move around within it, it could bring about change,” she mentioned.

Previously, Ras Mubarak, the head of the Trans-African Tourism and Unity Campaign Team, highlighted that the initiative symbolizes a significant milestone in its 40,000-kilometer trek across 39 countries aimed at promoting a visa-free continent and fostering African unity.

Mubarak emphasized the city’s lively atmosphere, tidiness, and attractions such as the Millennium Park and Jabi Lake, symbolizing an African vision that is eco-friendly, flourishing, and accessible to everyone.

He stated that the campaign’s objective is to eliminate visa restrictions that hinder African citizens from moving freely within the continent.

Mubarak highlighted the illogical nature of the present system, wherein obtaining visas to Europe or Turkey is simpler for Africans compared to traveling within Africa itself.

“Currently in Africa, a citizen from Western Africa finds it simpler to obtain a Schengen visa compared to acquiring visas for certain Southern African nations,” he stated.

Mubarak stated that these obstacles are leftovers from colonial separations which go against the African Union’s Agenda 2063 objective of a unified and thriving Africa.

He pointed out that the AU’s objective of a visa-free and boundary-less Africa by 2063 seems distant, adding that the initiative seeks to realize this aim within five years. Kenya’s move to eliminate all visa obligations for African citizens serves as an outstanding illustration of what can be achieved, Mubarak stated.

The initiative seeks to enhance travel within Africa and promote economic development, empower young people, and encourage cooperation between countries. Mubarak encouraged Nigerians to highlight the splendor of Abuja and welcome visitors to explore the city’s attractions, markets, and cultural heritage. “Let us position Nigeria as a bridge for African tourism, fostering economic progress and solidarity,” he stated.

As the initiative progresses, it will traverse 40,000 kilometers through 39 African nations, interacting with officials, decision-makers, and local populations to advocate for free movement without visas and increased tourist activities.

The trip will last for 163 days, ending in Ghana during January 2026. Mubarak called on Africans to join a petition advocating for a continent without borders and asked media colleagues to help spread the campaign’s message.

Abuja glows brightly. Similarly, Africa has the potential to shine. Share details about our initiative. Ensure our leaders take responsibility. Encourage people to support a world without borders.

The following locations will be part of the campaign: Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, along with various additional nations, prior to coming back to Ghana in the upcoming year.

Mubarak thanked the residents of Abuja and Nigerian authorities for their assistance and welcomed inquiries about the campaign.

The Secret Flight Behavior Flight Attendants Can’t Stand – Do You Do It?

  • Alpine Elements travel specialists highlighted a problem that frustrates flight attendants greatly

An aviation specialist has disclosed a typical action taken by passengers inside aircraft restrooms that leads to extra hassle for other travelers and flight attendants.

As reported by seasoned cabin crew members, who requested confidentiality, travelers often neglect to secure the restroom door—either when they’re inside or following their use of it.

“A senior flight attendant mentioned that passengers often fail to recognize the effect of their behavior in such an enclosed area,” said the.
Mirror
.

One habit we frequently encounter — which really annoys us — is keeping the bathroom door open while using it.

Even though the matter might appear trivial, it can lead to ongoing issues aboard, like travelers knocking without reason or trying to enter believing the restroom is available.

If the door is not securely closed during usage, it may lead to uncomfortable and humiliating situations.

Another frequent source of irritation for cabin crew and travelers is the incorrect use of the “occupied” indicator.

Should the lock not be completely activated, the signal might remain unchanged, causing uncertainty regarding the availability of the restroom.

Besides issues related to privacy, crew members mentioned that staying alert about restroom usage is important for safety and cleanliness purposes.

If a door remains unsecured or not properly closed, it might be difficult to determine if the area has been sanitized or is ready for occupancy.

Additionally, during emergencies, flight attendants should be aware of available resources.

A team member stated, “It’s humiliating for all concerned and leads to unnecessary delays, particularly when there’s a line during peak hours.”

Travel experts at
Alpine Elements
also emphasized additional behaviors that may annoy flight attendants and interfere with onboard services.

First, overuse of water is an issue since the plane has a restricted water reserve, making it unsuitable to let faucets remain open for extended periods.

One alternative is disposing of objects that may block airplane lavatory systems, like paper towels, moist wipes, and feminine hygiene products, which ought to go into the waste container.

A third concern involves prolonged time spent in the restroom, particularly for unnecessary reasons, which may result in lines and discomfort when traffic is high.

Travelers are encouraged to observe fundamental manners, including making sure the door is securely closed to indicate presence, refraining from using the restroom during busy hours, keeping water use brief, and disposing of trash in the designated bin rather than the toilet.

Meanwhile, a

Rio Ferdinand Questions Man Utd’s £17m Signing Amid Amorim’s Struggles

Rio Ferdinand
has questioned whether
Manchester United
Target Senne Lammens possesses the necessary expertise to address the goalkeeper issues of his previous team.

The Manchester United team is positioned 16th in the league.
Premier League
table following defeat in both of their first two matches.

Arsenal
departed Old Trafford having secured all three points on the first matchday of the season, but later found themselves settling for a 1-1 tie at
Fulham
on Sunday.

Ruben Amorim
Their team has still shown minor indications of progress from last season, featuring their preferred central defensive trio of
Leny Yoro
,
Matthijs de Ligt
and
Luke Shaw
establishing an encouraging collaboration with fresh additions Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo bringing energy to the attack.

However, the Red Devils’ obvious weakness this season has been in the goalkeeper position, as Amorim chose Altay Bayindir over last season’s usual starter.
Andre Onana
who appears to be unnecessary.

The Turkish player has failed to make an impact even though his coach publicly supported him, fumbling set pieces and looking unsure when handling the ball.

The challenges he has faced have led Manchester United officials Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrarda to launch a last-minute effort to recruit the 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

The Belgian player, who was absent from his team’s match against Mechelen over the weekend, is reportedly getting nearer to finalizing his transfer to the Premier League following an agreement on personal terms with United.

Renowned Red Devil Rio Ferdinand has, nonetheless, expressed doubts about whether Lammens is the solution for his old team’s goalkeeper issues, contending that Manchester United should be aiming for a more seasoned keeper.

“Manchester United have started discussions with Senne Lammens, a 23-year-old goalkeeper from Antwerp, although he lacks experience,” said the 46-year-old on his Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel.

Does this relate more to team depth rather than bringing in someone who can contribute right away?

Does Manchester United have to find someone capable of stabilizing things in that role, or are they relying on their current players, Bayindir and Onana, to compete for the starting goalkeeper spot?

Onana will be departing for the AFCON tournament during the winter, which will once more create challenges. I’m not sure, buddy. This issue will need to be resolved soon since currently, there’s uncertainty within the defense.

As a defensive player, I understand that doubt coming from behind leads to chaos, and for true success and reliability, such instability must not exist.

Ferdinand referred to Bayindir’s brief tenure as top player this season as “unstable,” yet believes the 27-year-old has demonstrated hints of promise.

He claimed Onana still lacks consistency, and his substitute appears unreliable during set pieces.

I believe Bayindir has promise, yet currently appears rather anxious, particularly when the ball is placed beneath the crossbar. Additionally, during last weekend’s match, there was an error leading to a goal. In terms of set pieces, our team seems exposed.

I joined the club during Fabian Barthez’s time there. However, prior to that, Peter Schmeichel was part of the team. Barthez was a World Cup champion but still seemed uneasy in his position, which shows how challenging this role can be.

Following that, we had Tim Howard, Roy Carroll, Tomasz Kuszczak, Ricardo, until we came across Edwin [van der Sar].

‘Edwin had extensive experience, secured many achievements, and then joined us, delivering exceptional performances — one of the greatest goalkeepers Manchester United has ever seen. However, it highlights how challenging this role can be.’

Manchester United will head to Grimsby tonight for a match in the second round of the Carabao Cup, as Amorim is set to introduce significant alterations to the team lineup.

Kobbie Mainoo, reportedly willing to depart from Old Trafford prior to next week’s transfer window closing, along with Joshua Zirkzee, has not yet made an appearance for the Reds this campaign and thus could be selected to start.

Although newly signed player Benjamin Sesko might get his debut appearance for United following his substitute appearances in the team’s initial two matches of the season.
