Canadian tourists have consistently been among our most regular visitors,” Anderson said. “When they stop coming, the effect is considerable.
He currently attributes the decline in tourist numbers to Trump’s tariff warnings and changes in border regulations, stating: “It’s not that Canadians aren’t interested in visiting Montana, but rather that they’re worried about what to anticipate, and whether they will be made to feel at home.”
Certain individuals might be familiar with accounts of travelers being ensnared by U.S. immigration authorities during Trump’s extensive removal campaigns, prompting the Canadian government to update its guidance for residents traveling to America.

It stated that tourists are required to “cooperate fully and provide honest information during all communications with immigration officials” and cautioned that guests “might be held temporarily until transport arrangements are made.”

However, as Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney keep exchanging criticisms, Anderson mentioned that Whitefish is facing difficulties.
Companies making hiring and resource allocation choices several months ahead of the typical peak summer travel period are now struggling fiercely to stay afloat, he stated.
Many small enterprises, such as eateries, operate with minimal profit margins,” Anderson stated. “Therefore, when costs for almost all items rise, it becomes more challenging to remain financially viable, irrespective of changes in customer traffic.
The rise in local tourism throughout the busy summer season also failed to assist, according to Anderson.
“Many of our U.S. guests stay for shorter periods, while Canadians have traditionally returned repeatedly—particularly during the off-peak season when our establishments require this the most,” he stated.
The unpredictability of the market is fueling a ‘highly seasonal’ pattern that proves harder to maintain.

Meanwhile, cities such as Whitefish and adjacent Kalispell are experiencing staff cuts at Glacier National Park despite almost record levels of visitors.
A national park that attracts 44 percent of Montana’s visitors has seen approximately one-quarter of its workforce leave because of budget efficiency measures, voluntary separation programs, and a recruitment halt implemented earlier this year,
NPR reports.
Guests are currently experiencing limited facilities within the park, impacting various aspects such as path availability, vehicle control, and also toilet upkeep.
This is placing greater pressure on Whitefish to fulfill the needs of visitors to the park.
“Communities in Montana are strong, yet as regulations continue to shift, it grows more difficult to prepare, invest, or develop for what lies ahead,” Anderson stated.
To encourage an increase in Canadian tourism, Glacier Country CEO Racene Friede initiated a promotional effort highlighting the long-standing connection between Montana and Canada,
World Travel and Tourism Reports
It aims to present Canadians not only as travelers but also as neighbors and companions.
“We keep informing Canadians that we look forward to welcoming them back when they feel prepared to return,” said Diane Medler, Executive Director of Discover Kalispell.
told The Travel
.
However, she stated, certain tourism offices within the state are pausing their advertisements in Canada due to the decline in international travel and Canadians’ generally unfavorable perception of the U.S.
“We require signs from both governments that transnational relationships and our business allies are important, and without such indication, no level of advertising will make a difference at this moment,” Medler stated.

It appears there is still reason for optimism, as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated on Friday that the nation has lifted numerous punitive tariffs on products imported from the United States.
He mentioned that the reduction, beginning September 1, will align with U.S. exceptions for products included in the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
“Canada now holds the most favorable trade agreement with the United States. Although it differs from our previous arrangement, it remains superior to those of all other countries,” Carney stated.
The premier mentioned that Trump’s dedication to the essence of USMCA ensures that the U.S. average tariff rate on Canadian products stays among its smallest, with more than 85% of Canada-U.S. trade remaining without tariffs.
This should assist in controlling costs across a range of items including timber and sea products, as well as alcoholic beverages and vehicle components.
For Americans, this shift goes beyond just having lower prices for products on store shelves and at gas stations. It also alleviates stress on companies depending on Canadian imports, such as those in construction and automotive industries, and helps prevent unexpected increases in costs.
Nevertheless, Canada’s 25% duties on U.S. vehicles, steel, and aluminum will continue for the time being – expenses that will impact Canadian buyers more significantly than their American counterparts.

Curving through the Aegean Sea and rugged hills, the Palia Strata provides an impressive route across the island of Amorgos, located in the Eastern Cyclades. This challenging yet memorable trek allows each step to uncover a landscape that remains wild and unspoiled.
The Palia Strata, a donkey path winding alongside the cliffs
On Amorgós, in the
Cycladic archipelago
The Palia Strata trail connects Chóra with Langada, traversing the island’s dry terrain and fertile hills emerging from the Aegean Sea. This ancient route has been traditionally utilized by shepherds to access remote settlements, running along the crest before slowly descending toward northern communities. Over a distance of 14.5 kilometers, you will travel through a network of dirt trails, terraces, empty highlands, and old agricultural properties. The blend of ocean vistas and interior landscapes turns this into one of the most enchanting hikes available in the Cyclades.
Beginning in Chora, at the center of the Amorgos mountains
The journey begins at Chora, situated 400 meters above sea level, located in the hilly heart of Amorgos. The trail starts from the main road heading toward the coastline, climbing old stone steps. Soon, structures transition into short walls, along with clusters of prickly pears and juniper bushes. From here, the Aegean Sea becomes visible below. The route gradually descends, passing through deserted farming areas and rocky enclosures, alongside some lone chapels, until arriving at a cliff face offering views of the southeastern shoreline.
Chozoviotissa, a monastery situated above the ocean
After two kilometers, the trail arrives at
one of the most remarkable places in Amorgos
The Monastery of Chozoviotissa. Constructed in the 11th century.
th
A monastery perched on a cliffside, accessible through a steep staircase etched into the rock 300 meters above the ocean — the sense of solitude intensifies with each step upward. Within, a slender chapel, several small rooms, and some Byzantine icons bear witness to a continuous spiritual tradition spanning nearly a millennium. From the balcony, the panorama extends over the Aegean Sea, encompassing the islands of Nikouria and Keros to the north.
From Kapsala to Asfondilitis, following the path of Amorgos’ shepherds
Following the monastery, the Palia Strata heads further northeast. The trail ascends across rocky ground and passes the remains of Kapsala, once a high-elevation settlement featuring some ruined sheep pens. You will then arrive at Asfondilitis, an empty village famous for its dry-stone walls and simple carvings. From 1897 until 1943, a lone herdsman named Michalis Roussos chiseled images of women, flower patterns, crosses, and names onto the flat stones along the road.
While descending towards Potamós, a terrace offers a view of the Bay of Aegiali
The path follows the coastal road before easing into a more gradual climb as you near Potamós, a small settlement perched above the Bay of Aegiali. The scenery slowly transforms here, featuring short, neatly maintained stone walls, stepped agricultural areas, and clusters of olive trees. Down below, the harbor of Aegiali and its whitewashed homes create a busier section of the region. Potamós stays a peaceful hamlet, boasting some meticulously renovated buildings, tight stairways, and unbroken vistas across the northern hillsides of the island.
Last part of the coastline approaching the village of Langada
The final part traces the shoreline along a terrace all the way to Langada, located on the northeastern shore of Amorgos. As you follow the incline, you encounter groves and some farmland. The village gradually becomes visible, situated on the hillside and overlooking Mount Krikellos. Charming and famous for its great eateries, Langada maintains its classic design, featuring stone-paved roads, steps, and tiny churches. From the central plaza, you may descend towards the Araklos Gorge or ascend to the walled church of Agía Triáda perched atop a cliff.
Key details to consider before departing
The Palia Strata trail is ideally hiked from April through October, when the weather is most suitable. Plan for an outing lasting anywhere between four and a half to five and a half hours, based on your walking speed and how often you stop. The path isn’t consistently marked, making it advisable to carry a map or utilize a GPS application to ensure you remain on course. During summertime, temperatures along this route can rise rapidly without any shelter or access to water sources. Starting your journey early in the day, preferably before 9 am, helps you escape the peak heat. Wearing appropriate shoes is crucial too, since certain parts of the trail are quite narrow, others are steep, and many areas may be slick because of worn-out stone surfaces.

Panic-stricken amusement park guests remained suspended mid-air for over an hour following a technical failure on a attraction at Six Flags America in
Maryland
.
A pleasant day at the Bowie amusement park became unpleasant for 32 visitors when the SteamWhirler stopped working during the afternoon on Saturday.
The malfunctioning attraction features four arms capable of holding eight individuals each during rotation. It made its debut in 2024, with Six Flags America noting that it offers a ‘moderate’ intensity experience.

Its personnel is capable of managing such scenarios without external help, yet one anxious passenger still called 911.
Firefighters from the Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (PGFD) reached the location at 3:25 pm.
Every rider was taken off the malfunctioning ride, with one individual transported to the hospital, as stated by the PGFD.
The department classified the injured individual’s condition as “severe yet not immediately dangerous,” though this was unrelated to the attraction coming to a halt.
A Six Flags representative said to Fox News: ‘Last afternoon, one of our attractions failed to finish its usual sequence and stopped before coming back down.’

No visitors suffered injuries. The attraction will stay closed for an extensive inspection to identify the reason behind its shutdown.
A spokesperson mentioned that occasionally attractions and roller coasters come to a halt due to sensors that automatically turn them off when detecting an issue—no matter how small it may be.
The attractions will not operate again until the problem has been assessed and resolved by staff, they said.
“Occasionally, the process demands an extended evaluation from qualified professionals. When this happens, we remove passengers—just as we did yesterday,” the representative said to the source.
This alarming event occurs just under three months prior to the

The famous amusement park, which first opened in 1974 under the name The Wildlife Preserve, went through several name alterations before 1999, when Premier Parks purchased it and renamed it Six Flags America.
The Bowie Six Flags’ related water park, Hurricane Harbor, will also close down.

“During our thorough evaluation of our park assets, we’ve concluded that they do not align with the company’s vision for sustained expansion,” stated Six Flags President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Zimmerman in a press release.
Following an assessment of various alternatives, we think promoting the property for renewal will yield the greatest worth and financial gain.
The park is most famous for being the location of Wild One, a 108-year-old wooden roller coaster recognized as the third-oldest in existence.
The shutdown will result in 70 full-time staff losing their positions, although the company mentioned that qualified employees will be offered termination packages and additional perks.

An intense earthquake registered at 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various towns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa early Tuesday, causing fear among locals who are still dealing with ongoing flood challenges.
The earthquakes began in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at a depth of 190 kilometers. Although they were light, the shocks were powerful enough to be distinctly noticed in several northern cities.
Inhabitants from Peshawar, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Chitral, Haripur, Malakand, Batkhela, and nearby regions experienced intense tremors. Individuals evacuated their houses and workplaces due to concerns about subsequent shocks and potential structural harm.
The tremors were also experienced in Mansehra, Mingora, Swat, Balakot, Battagram, Kohistan, and Toghrar. Officials conducted preventive evacuations in certain regions to safeguard people and minimize possible dangers.
Luckily, authorities have not yet documented any injuries or significant damage. Nevertheless, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised locals to remain vigilant and adhere to precautionary steps in case of subsequent tremors.
This seismic event occurs during a challenging period for Pakistan, with many areas currently facing sudden floods and intense rain. Officials have confirmed that surveillance mechanisms continue to function effectively to address any crisis promptly.

Intense monsoon downpours have caused rivers in Punjab to rise to alarming levels, submerging communities, damaging agricultural land, and isolating areas due to blocked roadways, with the NDMA issuing a critical warning about impending rainfall.
A warning was issued as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa experienced severe floods that resulted in more than 320 fatalities. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed his ministers to take direct responsibility for overseeing aid efforts in the most severely impacted areas.
Beginning in late June, continuous heavy rains, sudden floodwaters, and mudslides have resulted in the deaths of at least 657 individuals and injuries to almost 1,000 others throughout Pakistan. Authorities worry about deteriorating situations with additional rainfall expected.
The National Disaster Management Authority stated that intense to extremely high amounts of rain are anticipated throughout Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Authorities cautioned that precipitation could surpass 50 to 60 percent over typical rates.
K-P continues to be the most severely affected area, with regions such as Buner, Swat, Shangla, and Bajaur experiencing extensive damage. Many houses have suffered destruction or harm, and roadways and bridges are still obstructed due to landslides.
At the same time, rescue efforts are being carried out. The NDMA along with regional authorities are providing tents, quilts, provisions, and monetary assistance. The Prime Minister pledged to the individuals affected by floods that their damaged houses will be reconstructed and security protocols enhanced.

The central administration, military forces, and National Disaster Management Authority conducted a combined media update in Islamabad regarding the current monsoon emergency. Representatives stated that torrential rainfall has resulted in 670 fatalities throughout Pakistan. Numerous additional individuals remain wounded or unaccounted for. Teams from the NDMA are continuing efforts to locate those carried off by floodwaters. Immediate relief activities are ongoing in every impacted area.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif from DG ISPR stated that the flooding has caused damage to roads and bridges, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In order to act swiftly, the military sent two engineering battalions to KP and another two to Gilgit-Baltistan. These teams are working on unblocking roadways and repairing damaged structures. Military engineers are additionally assisting with restoring communication networks. The availability of relief supplies is gradually increasing in isolated regions.
At the same time, military medical personnel are providing assistance to those wounded in flooded areas. To date, more than 6,000 individuals have been provided with healthcare services. Nine mobile field hospitals are functioning within impacted regions. Two established medical facilities have been stationed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit. Additionally, two battalions are offering medical aid in Buner and Shangla. Numerous survivors are being treated for severe wounds.
The military is operating based on specific directives issued by the Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir. Extra battalions have been deployed for recovery and assistance efforts. In order to assist those impacted, the army has contributed a day’s worth of provisions from its stockpiles. Aid materials are handed out every day. Supplies such as food, drinking water, and medical items are transported to isolated regions using aircraft and vehicles.
To sum up, Pakistan’s civilian and military organizations are collaborating effectively to handle the crisis. The administration called on citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to safety instructions. Aid operations will persist until everyone impacted is secure. The NDMA mentioned that restoration and rebuilding could require an extended period. Nevertheless, complete nationwide backing has been pledged for each affected area.
